Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John's at the age of 95 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Ellen Fitzgerald; sisters Rita (Pat) Keough and Mary (Ron) O’Leary; and brother-in-law Gerald Marshall. He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years, Rita and their children Linda (Howard), James, Madonna (Paddy), Tony (Cindy); sister Theresa Marshall; grandchildren Christopher, Sara, Justin, Amanda, Jessica, James and Susan; great-grandchildren Sophia and Madison; special nephew Dermot MacDonald; as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, emergency room, 4th floor West and the 7th floor East and to everyone else who helped in any way. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, St. John’s on Wednesday, March 1 from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa’s Church, St. John’s. Visitation from Noel’s Funeral Home, Western Bay on Thursday, March 2 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Western Bay. Donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 10 Pippy Place, St. John’s, NL, A1B 3X3 or online at kidney.ca.
