Obituary of Randy Wheadon

Please share a memory of Randy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our loving husband and father, Randy Rayfield Wheadon, on August 25, 2017.  Randy died doing what he loved best, listening to music and celebrating life with his wife and close friends.

Left with fond and loving memories, his wife Karen of Lower Island Cove and son Ben (Andrea) of Winnipeg.  Survived by brothers Selby (Violet), Boyd (Mildred), Rick, and Baxter. Predeceased by his parents Maxwell and Lillian Wheadon, sister, Florence, and his parents-in-law, Joseph and Ethel Sparkes.

Randy grew up in Western Bay and met the love of his life, Karen, at the age of 15.  He moved away from Western Bay at the age of 18, when he joined the Military and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an airplane mechanic for 26 years.  After retiring from the Military, Randy worked in security for the Winnipeg Airport and Red River College for the next ten years.

After spending 37 years away from Newfoundland, Randy and Karen retired and returned to Lower Island Cove in 2011.  Since that time, Randy and Karen lived life to the fullest, travelling the world for part of each year and returning home to reconnect with the natural beauty and wonder of Lower Island Cove.

From the age of 12, Randy loved music, especially rock and roll.  So music became a large part of Randy's, Karen's and Ben's lives.  Retirement allowed time for Randy to pursue his passions for music and fitness.  He fulfilled his lifelong dream of learning to play the drums and he hiked in many beautiful and exotic countries.

Randy was a passionate man who "shot straight from the hip."  He loved his wife Karen and son Ben with all of his heart.  Although some people may have only seen the serious side of Randy, for those who knew him well, he will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty and wicked sense of humor. There would be no better person to call your friend.

Randy and his family also had a deep and abiding love for all animals and shared their home through the years with many "four-legged" family members.   In recognition of this love, we would be so happy if you were to honor Randy's memory with a donation to Heavenly Creatures.  Donation pledge forms will be available at the wake and Celebration of Life service.  You may also donate to Heavenly Creatures by going to www.heavenlycreatures.ca/donate.asp

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 01, 2017 at 2 pm at the Noel's Funeral Home Chapel in Western Bay.

Randy, we can see you now, with a twinkle in your eye, playing the air guitar to your favorite rock music.  So we say good bye to you in your own words "Hey Randy, rock on!"
