passed away on March 28, 2019, at the age of 80. He was the son of Nathan and Jean (Soule) Rich of Stillwater, Maine, USA, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a B.S. in Engineering Physics and an M.S. in Physics. He then earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Southern California. Nathan spent three years in research at the University of Toronto before moving to Newfoundland where he taught at Memorial University in St. John’s until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Sulides Rich of Harbour Grace, his son Alan and wife, Marlyn Brownrigg, of Pointe Claire, Quebec, and his daughter Sara Rich Dorman and her husband Bill of Edinburgh, Scotland, and by four grandchildren: Philip and Thomas Rich and Katharine and Philip Dorman. He also leaves his sister: Rosemary Leonard and her husband Richard in Veazie, Maine, and his brother Stuart Rich and his partner Peter Murray of Owls Head, Maine.
At Nathan’s request there will be no services.
