Sincerest condolences to Eric's family and friends. It was always a pleasure to see and chat with him in Freshwater over the years at church services and events at the hall. The last time I saw him was at my Uncle Pat's funeral. Freshwater will not be the same without him. -- Suzanne Fitzpatrick

My condolences to the rest of Eric's family and friends. Eric was the only grandfather figure I had in my life. My Pop Clarke died on my third birthday and I was still young when Nan met Eric. I remember him always tinkering with something in the basement, whether it be fishing poles or making wine. And when I went to university he always had a bottle of homemade strawberry wine to send back with me. I saw him recite the Smoke Room on the Kyle at the Freshwater coffee house. His mind was very sharpe even in his later years. Unfortunately, the last time I saw him was at my father's funeral 2 years ago. May he rest in peace.

To The Parsons Family
Please accept my heartfelt condolence on the loss of your dear father, grandfather and brother. Eric was a very kind, generous and interesting man. Back in the seventies, when I was first went teaching, your Dad would come to the small isolated community where I lived and bring me back to your house in Baie Verte for the weekend. Your Mom would cook some great home cook meals as well. It meant a lot to me as I was so far from my home and my family on Bell Island.
In recent years, I always looked forward to Uncle Don’s birthday parties each summer as your Father would always be there. He would capture our interest in his little “ditties” and recitation of, “The Smoke Room on The Kyle”! A very entertaining man! May you find comfort in all your wonderful memories of him.

Sincere condolences to Eric's family. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions in the 50's and 60's when he would visit with Reg and his family in Carbonear. Reading his obituary I regret not getting to know him better.

February 28/2020 To the Parsons Family
Eric was my Mom, Hazel Harvey Cook's first cousin on the Parsons side. Eric came to our house,on the Golden Ridge Farm many times when I was growing up. I remember that when Ross , my brother was just starting school, Eric volunteered to drive him.He was a no stranger to our home, and he and Marjorie came to our house , immediately after their wedding.
We loved to see him visit, he was more than a relative , he was one of us. Although life events separate us,we all loved Eric and vice versa.Blessed to know him. I will attach what Eric wrote to me when I was a kid..... pre Facebook.

So very sorry to hear of Eric's passing. He was such a gentle man and a friend to all that knew him. Most would have to say that he was one of Freshwater's most witty, knowledgeable , crafty and community minded people in the area. I feel blessed to have had the pleasure of his friendship over the years and the many chats, card games , meals, and, even though I was not a fan of " Milk and Honey, the many livations we had together. Please accept our sincere condolences. Go rest high on that mountain Eric. Many of your friends are awaiting your arrival. God Bless

To all of those who loved Eric:
A few years ago Eric invited me to be his guest at a Valentines supper put off by the Men’s Service Group. He said we were both alone and no one should be alone on Valentines Day. That was the start of a lovely friendship with Eric. I looked forward to seeing him in the congregation at church and hearing him at Coffeehouse. We exchanged recipes for jams and jellies and he would be the taster for new recipes. I will miss seeing his grin and our little talks. Rest easy Eric.

We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Eric's passing. Our sincerest condolences go out to all the family. We were fortunate to have Eric live next door since his return to Freshwater. One memory of Eric that stands out is he and Uncle Pat in the church tower attempting to solve a leak problem. Recently at a church service Eric blessed us with a reading of a poem he had written. I am sure when we gather in the future for coffee house, a church service, or a family gathering we will fondly remember him. Eric will be sadly missed.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Ps passing. My condolences. I enjoyed many chats and yarns with Eric over the years. I fondly remember being his helper on some jobs. Everyday at 3 o'clock I made my way to the store for 1L of milk to be what he called "young Murph, its time to be the bartender". My role at that time of the day was to clean up the mess and tools and pour a Ballantines scotch and milk on ice. He was always interested to talk when I would get home. I can always remember him offering me a chew of tobacco which I politely denied many times. There was the one time I had a few beers with the boys and he was inquiring where we were going and said Davis you got to have a chew first, it will toughen you up. He instructed me to chew the tobacco to get a good juice going and to swallow the first mouth full, which I did. 30 secs later I was vomiting in his driveway. I can see the smile on his face and hear his Harty laugh as I write this. You were a very knowledgeable man Mr.P and you will be missed.

Our sincere condolences to all of Eric’s family. We were saddened to hear of his sudden passing.
Eric was also a part of our lives for a very long time. We shared many good times together when our mom was part of his life. They camped, fished, berry picked, played cards and enjoyed many good years together.
Things didn’t quite end for either of them as we thought it would when Eric called our mom so many years ago and asked her on a blind date.
Situations changed and life certainly threw some curve balls but in the end our families share the loss of a significant person in our lives.
Thinking of you at this difficult time.
