Dallas, Christine and extended family.
So sad to hear of your Dad's passing. Always there for a joke, a laugh or a story. I can't ever remember Les ever being in a sad or down mood. Always upbeat. Always smiling. As boys, I can remember every now and then him letting us go in and "cut a bag of greens" on his property down in the lane. I can remember him and my Dad and their group of cronies sitting around, having a "snort" as they called it and just enjoying each others company. I remember as a young man being around one such gathering when your Dad belted out a lovely rendition of the old G-Clefs song " I Understand (Just How You Feel) ". He did a fine job of it too !
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Penney Family at this sad loss. RIP Mr. Les Penney

Dallas, Christine and families: I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies on the passing of your Dad. I remember well the many chats that we had into the cabins in the Line Road as well as the many trouting trips to the ponds in there. I first met Mr. Penney and got to know him just over 50 years ago when I worked at Butt’s Garage and he was a regular customer. A fine man who will surely be missed by all who knew him. My condolences to y’all.

We were so sorry, Christine and Dallas, to hear that your Dad has passed away.
We will miss him. Uncle Les always welcomed us in the summer when we visited. We’d have such fun!
He’d take us to see the new litter of kittens. Then we’d all pile into the pickup truck to go for a swim. There was always the hens and Mr Bacon to visit too. Sometimes we’d go delivering eggs with him too.
Just simple, thoughtful things to delight his nieces and nephews. He was a great Uncle.
Those were days we took for granted that we’ll never experience again. Three cheers for Uncle Les!!!

When I heard the news that Uncle Les had passed away, I immediately thought of Penney's Poultry Farm. The summer's in Carbonear at the old house. Chip the dog, and Uncle Les telling us not to get to close. The cabin in Rocky Pond. The times Dallas and I would go with Uncle Les to do the egg run.
Uncle Les loved to talk, laugh and enjoy a good meal. Lots of wonderful memories. Rest in Peace Uncle Les.
Hugs to Dallas and Christine

Dear Dallas and Christine (and all your families)
So very sorry to hear of Uncle Les’s passing. I have so many memories of summers spent in Carbonear at the house and wonderful times with Uncle Les. Always smiling, laughing, joking and kidding around. A favourite memory is a trip we made to town to pick up some chicks for the henhouse. We had picked up the chicks and they were all loaded in the back of the truck chirping away and we were stuffed in the cab with the windows down. We passed a hitch hiker and your dad slowed down, leaned over and yelled out “ Sorry by, got a thousand aboard. No room for you!” We all cracked up laughing! I don’t know why that memory has stuck when there are so many…..
He will be missed by so many. Hugs to you all
Love
Cindy (Halifax)
* I’ve just read my brother Bob’s account of the chick run. Not sure which version is more accurate but it’s a wonderful memory of time spent with a wonderful man!

Christine, Dallas and family. Such sad news to hear of Uncle Les's passing. I have strong memories of spending time in his presence at the poultry farm. He always had a big smile for me and a bigger laugh. I remember a trip to the St. John's airport to pick up 1000 one day old chicks in Pop Penney's car. On the way back to Carbonear we saw a guy hitchhiking . Uncle Les stopped and spoke with guy. I remember the two of them laughing when Uncle Les said "boy I'd give you a lift but I already got a thousand onboard!" A fun, lasting memory. Take care.

Christine and family - I was saddened when I learned about your Dad's passing. I remember you telling us a little about your Dad, when we attended your brother's wake, and it was obvious to me you cared much about your father. Your Dad lived to the age of 90, which was the same age of my father, when he passed away a few years ago. I thought or hoped my Dad might live forever and though he had 90 years I wanted him for a few more and no doubt you may wish the same. I smiled when I saw your Dad's picture with his obit, as his huge smile reminds me very much of your large smiles and laughter. I'm guessing he was someone like yourself, and he loved a good laugh and enjoyed company, leaving you with many fond memories of him. I am once again reminded of the old adage, "death ends a life but it doesn't end a relationship." He, of course, is still your Dad and you can connect with him with thoughts and silent words, at any time.
Christine, I will not attend his wake or the funeral service, as much as I would like to, because of my ailing lungs and my fear of Covid. I will however be thinking of you and I send my sincere condolences to you and your family members.
