Esther was a very special, caring person -- the kind you can count on no matter what. I was just a little kid the first time I met her. She used her time off in the summer to help her seriously ill 1st cousin Hazel Durdle travel to New England to see some medical specialists. They stayed with us (my mother was Hazel's sister Winnie) in Connecticut. Not only was Esther there for Hazel, she also entertained me and my brother during those medical visits to Tufts in Boston. Esther did a wonderful job of distracting us from the seriousness of our Aunt Hazel's medical issues. To this day Esther's generosity, compassion, and love of life still stand out to me as a wonderful example of what it means to be family, a trusted friend, and a good citizen. Luckily, I got to reunite with her several more times in Cape Breton under more pleasant circumstances and exchange phone calls until just a few years ago. Esther will be missed.

Condolences to Ester’s friends and family. Ester was dearly loved by her Cape Breton family. She had a wicket sense of humour. Ester welcomed us with open arms on Newfoundland visits. Lots of fond memories of those days.

Please accept my deepest condolences on dear cousin Esther's passing. We always had a great laugh together when I was home and shared many fun emails over the years. When visiting Nana Emberley over the summer holidays I enjoyed trotting over to Aunt Sarah's and Uncle Ab's especially when Esther was home, that cookie tin was always full. Esther lovingly provided me with homemade slippers every Christmas; but sadly not these past few years. I will miss her this Christmas for sure. Rest in Peace Esther, you will always be in my heart.

To Esther’s extended family:
My deepest condolences on the passing of Esther. She was a dear friend of my Aunt Helen when she taught school in Carbonear and I have very fond memories of her visiting our home for a game of cards or a sing-song. She was a strong, independent and intelligent woman. She was a teacher, a musician and a very stylish lady with a wicked sense of humour. I remember as a child her visiting my mother wearing a camel hair cape lined in fur. This was in the 1950s and I had never seen anything like it before or since. That is how I will always remember Esther, dressed to the nines and enjoying every minute of life.
May her memory be a blessing to us all.

To all of Esther's extended family,
Please accept my deepest condolences in the passing of Esther.
She truly was an inspiration and testament to strength and resilience in the living of her life.
While I didn't see her in recent years I did connect with her through social media and private messages. Esther embraced modern technology and exhibited herself as a life long learner. I was especially grateful and in awe of her gift to make music when called upon and she put me at ease when she accompanied me in singing at both my parents funerals.
Always beautifully presented in her personal attire and her smile.
May she rest in the presence of the Holy for a life well lived.
