Passed away on April 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, and service to her family and community. Born on February 12, 1936, Carrie was a devoted spouse to the late Lewis Potter of Clementsvale, Nova Scotia, with whom she shared 58 years. Together, they built a loving family, including their children Sherry, Dean (Dionne Rice), Corey (Michelle Barrett), and Laurie (Michael Taylor), as well as her step-children Doug, Bernie, Rose, and Adair, all of Nova Scotia, and adopted family member, Margaret Rice of Red Head Cove. She adored her extended family with many nieces & nephews, as well as her grandchildren, and was especially grateful for the support of her grandsons Brock and Blake. Blake served his grandparents with unparalleled love and devotion— a long-lasting dedication for which the entire family is profoundly thankful. Carrie was a gifted baker, known for her legendary homemade bread and apple pies. Her creations brought joy to countless fundraising events for both Anglican and Roman Catholic churches. Her community involvement was unparalleled, serving on the town council for 14 years, acting as an Anglican Church warden and treasurer for many years, and being a steadfast member of the Bay de Verde Heritage Committee. Carrie’s creativity shone through her direction, songwriting, and organization of old-fashioned concerts that brought neighbors together. Carrie loved all holidays and embraced them as an opportunity for large family celebrations, with Christmas holding a special place in her heart. Her enthusiasm for decorations, festive food, and trimmings made every season brighter. She had a fondness for cardinals, always surrounded herself with animals, and was a self-taught accountant. She was one of six sisters, including Annie, dec. 1971 (John Lockyer), Catherine (George Eddy), Elsie, dec. 2005 (Dave Gourley), Ruby, dec. 2013 (George Macdonald,), and Gloria (Dave Andrews). Carrie was the daughter of Augusta Blundon-Barter (dec. 1999) and William Barter (dec. 1985). Carrie’s caregivers Judy Terry, Michael Morgan, Shannon Power, and Betty Broaders (dec. 2021) provided her with unwavering support in her later years, for which the family is deeply grateful. Special thanks go to the doctors and nurses at Wilkinson Memorial Hospital, Old Perlican, for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2025, in Bay de Verde. To honor Carrie’s vibrant spirit, attendees are encouraged to wear her favorite color, red, or add a touch of sparkle—something she adored. Carrie Barter-Potter will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and endless dedication to her family and community. May her memory continue to inspire those who knew her.
