Obituary of Albert Chesley Noel
It is with great sadness that the family of Albert Chesley Noel announces his passing on December 14, 2025, at the Carbonear General Hospital, Carbonear, NL at the age of 95.
Albert was born on the southside of Harbour Grace on October 20, 1930, which he referred to as “10-20-30”! He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Amy (Troke) Noel, his siblings Maud Peddle, Bill Noel and Hazel Roy.
Leaving to mourn his daughters Jennifer (Gerard) Reddick, and Stephanie (Gilbert) Bennett. Already missing their grandpa are Amelia (Paul) Kennedy, Patrick Reddick and Emily Bennett. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Anne Peddle, Lillian Cooper, and Thelma (Lloyd) Newman and sister-in-law, Viola Noel, and other members of his family.
Albert loved his family and his God. He lost both his parents at an early age and left home as a young man to become a teacher to help support his family. He taught in several places until he met Amy, who was also a teacher, and they moved to Grand Falls – Windsor. Albert worked at the Staff House (Carmelite Hotel) of the AND Company and then moved to Harvey & Company Construction Division where he retired in 1991.
Albert was a “jack-of-all-trades” and sometimes a “master-of-some”. If it was broken, there was a way to fix it! He had several hobbies, but his favourite activity was cod fishing. He loved being out on the water and his filleting skills were admired by all. Albert was also famous for his raisin buns! Amy’s small batches were never enough so he took over production making 90 at a time. Wherever he went, there was always a bag of “Albert’s raisin buns”.
Albert was devoted to his church, especially St. Alban’s. He served as he was called. He was a lay reader for most of his life. His last service was his 90th birthday when he went to St. Peter’s and no minister arrived. So, he decided he would do the service – his only regret was that the service was short because he didn’t have time to prepare a sermon!
The family would like to acknowledge the care shown by the staff of Lanes Retirement Living where he had been residing for the last eight years. Special thanks to Carolyn Hearn and Wanda King and to the staff at the hospital for their kindness and compassion.
Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Wednesday, December 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral service on Thursday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Harbour Grace South.
Internment will take place in St. Alban’s Cemetery, Grand Falls – Windsor at a later date.
