Obituary of Hazel Yetman
Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on May 3, 2026, in the presence of her family, Hazel Yetman of Harbour Grace, age 105 years.
Predeceased by husband Ralph; parents Thomas and Amelia Pike; son-in-law Eugene Taylor; grandchildren Keith Taylor, April Garland, and David Taylor; sister Jean (Bob) Dove; brothers William (Iva) Pike, George (Doris) Pike and Tom (Winnie) Pike; brothers-in-law from the Kelloway family Albert (Ellie), Ross (Lilllian), and Ernest (Anne).
Leaving to mourn, two daughters Diane Taylor and Jean (Bruce) Garland; four sons: Jim (Judy), Tom (Michelle), Ken (Vonnie) and Derek (Marcella); twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Hazel lived through more history than most museums can hold. Born and raised in Harbour Grace, she grew up to witness more than a century of jaw dropping change. She often spoke of the Great Depression, the tsunami of 1929, and the flight of Amelia Earhart from Harbour Grace airport in 1932. She remembered the 1944 fire that burned most of the town's business section. From schooners and horse drawn carts to satellites and smart phones, she saw it all and stayed sharper than most people scrolling through life today.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to management and staff of Lanes Retirement Living for taking such good care of her for more than 10 years. They conferred upon her the title of "Queen" and treated her like royalty.
We also extend thanks to the doctors and staff on the 6th floor of Carbonear General Hospital for their expert care.
