Obituary of W. Hanson Sutton

Please share a memory of W. Hanson to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Hans, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 76.

Predeceased by parents: John and Bernice Sutton; parents-in-law: Simeon and Audrey Sellars; sister-in-law: Phyllis Sutton.

Leaving to mourn, loving wife of 46 years: Donna; daughter: Dionne (Jason) Coish; son: Dane (Melissa) Sutton; grandchildren: Jacob, Avery, Mia, and Reed; brother: Henry; sister: Marjorie (Baxter) Penney; brothers-in-law: Dennis (Bernice), Desmond (Deborah), Rev. Dean (Georgina); special cousin that was more like a brother: Lloyd Sutton; special friends: Ken Kelloway and Jeff Mullins; also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Hans was a devoted family man whose greatest joy in life was spending time with those he loved. A caring husband to Donna and a proud father to Dionne and Dane. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, sense of humour, and unwavering love for his family.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and nature. Whether hunting in the woods, growing vegetables or sitting by a fire sharing stories of the past, Hans treasured the simple moments, and the friendships made along the way. His passion for hunting was more than a hobby - it was a tradition he loved sharing with family and friends.

Hans was a devoted member of IBEW local 2330 for 40 years and supported the brotherhood and those friendships he made over the years near and far.

Those who knew him will remember his generous heart, hardworking spirit, and the wisdom he passed down to his grandchildren whom he dearly loved.
He leaves behind countless memories that will be forever adored.

Special thanks to the staff at Old Perlican Hospital, especially Dr Mitchell Keough and nurse, Elaine Doyle. The family would also like to thank Dr Liam Matthews, Dr Dehghani, and Dr Jennifer of Carbonear General Hospital and nurses Melissa and Hailey on the 7th floor that helped in his final hours.

Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Monday, May 18 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral service to take place on Tuesday May 19, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from Victoria United Church.
