FUNERAL SERVICE
Obituary of Scott Cleary
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Scott Cleary, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, stepsons, and daughter-in-law, at Carbonear General Hospital on May 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.
Born in Gander, NL, and raised in Riverhead, Harbour Grace, Scott was a man of few words whose actions spoke volumes. He formed countless lifelong friendships wherever he went and was known for always showing up when someone needed a hand, a laugh, or support. Loyal, dependable, and deeply caring, Scott looked out for everyone around him.
An avid sports enthusiast and talented basketball player, Scott carried his love of teamwork and community throughout his life. He dedicated many years of service as a Youth Care Counsellor at the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre, where he made a lasting impact on the lives of many young people through his guidance, patience, and steady presence.
Scott found his greatest happiness outdoors — enjoying nature, spending time with family and friends, and sharing laughs with his beloved Cleary clan. As the youngest of twelve siblings, family was at the center of who he was. He especially cherished time spent with his wife, daughters, step sons, siblings, nieces, nephews, and the many friends he gathered throughout his life.
Scott faced his illness with remarkable strength and determination, truly living up to his cherished family nickname, “Bruiser.” Even in his final days, his concern remained for the people he loved most. His final advice to his family and friends was simple and true to him: “Keep your stick on the ice.”
Scott was predeceased by his parents: Tom and Patricia; father-in-law: Brian; brothers: Kenneth, Ronald, and Kevin; sister: Jeanie; nieces: Lisa and Danielle; and nephew's: J.D. & Eric.
Leaving to mourn with treasured memories are his devoted wife: Colleen; daughters: Jane (Daniel), Ally (Josh), and Emma (Josh); stepsons: Andrew, Kirby (Shelby), and Josh (Brooklyn); siblings: Patsy, Judy (Mac), Linda, Phyllis (Luke), Tommy (Gladys), Donny (Tina), and Michelle (Steve); sisters-in-law: Carolann and Brenda; mother-in-law: Elizabeth; the Trainor family; as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, co-workers, and friends from the many circles he touched throughout his life.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to every friend, family member, and co-worker who reached out to Scott in his final days. Every visit, message, prayer, and expression of love brought him comfort and joy, and he truly appreciated each and every one.
His loved ones would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to his Oncologist, Dr. Siddiqui, and all of the nurses at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre for their outstanding care and compassion.
