Obituary of Edward "Neddie" Oliver

Please share a memory of Edward "Neddie" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Edward “Neddie” Oliver regretfully announce his passing.

Neddie passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and family, at the Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion, Carbonear, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the age of 84.

He was predeceased by his parents: Edward and Emma Oliver; his brothers: Leo, Gussie,  William, and Henry; his sisters: Bernadette (Will Joe), Madeline (Ralph), Martha (Leo), Winnie (Peter), and Margarete (Jim); as well as many other beloved family members who went before him.

Leaving behind with a lifetime of cherished memories are his devoted wife of 59 years, Pauline; his children: Melissa (Damien), Rodney (Dawn), and Geoffrey (Elaine); his brother: Jerome; his grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life: Kelsey (Matt), Karla (Chris), Shania (Shawn), Morgan, Kirkland, Kyle (Rebecca), and Jaxon; and his treasured great-grandchildren: Arielle, Hayden, and Akyler. He also leaves with loving memories his special nieces, whom he loved and raised as his own: Rhonda (Ray), Brenda (Paul), and Karen (Gary); sisters-in-law: Darlene, Tilley, and Theresa; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Born and raised in Gull Island, Neddie was a hardworking and dedicated family man. Throughout his life, he took great pride in providing for those he loved. He began his fishing career at the age of 15 alongside his brother-in-law Ralph aboard the Marion Louise and continued fishing on many vessels throughout his lifetime, eventually ending his career working alongside his son, Geoffrey.

Neddie was also a skilled carpenter and was well known throughout the community for his craftsmanship. Over the years, he helped build many homes throughout the area, leaving a lasting mark on the communities he served. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, sarcastic sense of humour, the little songs and ditties he would often make up, and his ability to make people laugh.

One of Neddie’s most admirable qualities was his unwavering devotion to his wife, Pauline. Their 59 years together were built on loyalty, partnership, love, and mutual support, serving as an example to all who knew them.

The family extends their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to his home-care workers and the staff of 1 South and 4 South for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Neddie throughout the past several years.
