Obituary of Watson Calvin "Trent" White

Watson Calvin “Trent” White, age 52, passed away with his wife Denise by his side on June 3, 2026, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born on June 13, 1973, Trent was raised in his beloved hometown of Western Bay, NL, a place that always held a special place in his heart. He dedicated 27 years of his life as a College Instructor, at CNA Clarenville, teaching Mathematics and Statistics. Through his patience, knowledge, and genuine care for others, he left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.

Trent will be forever cherished and deeply missed by his best friend of 35 years and devoted wife for 22 of them, Denise. Their life together was built on love, laughter, and a deep and abiding friendship. For every day of their lives together he was the ultimate gentleman and a man she was proud to call her husband. They enjoyed spending time together doing all the things they loved…road trips, time at the cabin, boating on Long Pond, spending time with friends and family, growing a few vegetables, or just watching a movie together. Their life together was rooted in the promise they made on their wedding day—to share all that their life together may bring… and that they did.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted parents, Calvin and Sophie White, whose love, strength, and values shaped the man he became and remained a constant source of comfort and pride throughout his life. He will never be forgotten by his siblings, whom he absolutely adored and who considered him their hero: Tom (Suzanne) White, Karen (Ron) Bartlett, and Trevor (Donna) White. They enjoyed many a time sitting around the family kitchen table sharing memories and stories, along with Trent’s embellishments. He was incredibly proud of his nieces and nephews—Heather (Ryan) Gordon, Becky (Richard) Johnson, Aaron, Jenna, and Luke. Most recently, he found great joy in seeing pictures of his precious great-nieces and nephew, Amelia, Max, and Bryer, often remarking and warmly debating who looked most like “The Whites”. He also leaves behind his beloved Aunt Elvira along with many wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins who held a special place in his life.

He will never be forgotten by his second family, who loved him as their own: his in-laws Walter and Frances Ralph, his brother-in-law Scott (Kim), and her son Joseph. During get togethers with them over turkey dinners, there were lots of hearty sports discussions on whether the Blue Jays would finally make it this year, or much to Scott’s delight, a summary of Denise’s most recent driving escapades. Whatever the conversation, the laughs and stories will be remembered forever.

Left with broken hearts, but also with a lifetime of cherished memories, is a special group affectionately known as “The Crowd”— a group of friends who became family, a bond formed over years and strengthened through life’s moments both big and small and whose shared memories and enduring friendship became part of the story of his life. He will be remembered fondly for his love of everything Irish, especially music.  He had a fierce love of Newfoundland and its history which was often commemorated with one of his cherished flags flying high on Western Bay Line remembering the soldiers on July 1. The Crowd will certainly remember him for his love of telling stories, always embellished and often at his wife’s expense. He was never happier than when he had them as a captive audience for one of his “Chickie” stories. Even their kids, who he watched grow up and who he adored, would get a kick out of his story telling.

Through his work as a college instructor, Trent built another extended family among colleagues and friends—those he came to know as his work family. These relationships became an important part of his life, and their shared experiences and friendships will never be forgotten. He was always up for a good prank but had such an innocence about him that he never got blamed…much to the frustration of his some of his colleagues. Many an afternoon after school you would find “the boys” hanging out in Trent’s office, where the laughter of friends could be heard throughout the hallways.

Trent is also lovingly remembered by his Shoal Harbour neighbours and friends, who watched out for him at every opportunity and added so much care, kindness, and support to his everyday life. There was never a worry that a garage door would be left open, a driveway would be cleared, or that a stray garbage can would find its way back to the house.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gordon Stockwell, Trent’s long-time family physician in Clarenville. Thank you for your professionalism and knowledge, but equally for your kindness, respect, and compassion. Your commitment to Trent allowed him to live his best life—and it was a life that he truly loved. You and the Crewe Clinic supported him at every opportunity. He often said that he couldn’t have asked for a better doctor or team.

Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff of Community Health, especially Janine MacIsaac, and to all those who came before and who answered every email and provided immediate and compassionate support at every turn. Heartfelt appreciation is also extended to the staff of the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital. Every person Trent encountered there took him under their wing and went above and beyond to provide care and support at every level. The family would also like to thank Angela Shepherd, Cancer Navigator, for her unwavering support, kindness, and sincere dedication. Her willingness to help, whenever she possibly could, brought comfort during a difficult time. Also, sincere thanks to Health-E-Choice Pharmacy for their commitment to Trent’s care. All of you made Trent’s life better in your own way.

He will always be grateful for the help of M.J. Brown of Ascend Wellness and Lisa Chatman of Cabot Home Health Care who helped him so much over the years, as well as special thanks to Audrey and Roland from Angel’s Touch Home Care, who brought laughter, smiles, and stories with every visit.

Trent will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep loyalty, his love of family, and the meaningful connections he built with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.

Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Main Highway, Western Bay on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

A celebration of Trent’s life will take place Monday, June 8, at 2:00 p.m. from Noel’s Funeral Home, Main Highway, Western Bay.

Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Western Bay Line.

To Denise, he was both anchor and safe harbour—steady, constant, and true. And to Trent, she was always his lighthouse, guiding him back home. Together, their love was a light that will never fade.
