Obituary of Maxine Bailey

The family of Maxine Bailey (nee Combden) are broken hearted to announce her passing on June 9, 2026 at Carbonear General Hospital.

Maxine is pre-deceased by her parents, Valda and Edward Combden; brother: David Combden; mother and father-in-law: Violet and Llewelyn Bailey.

Leaving to mourn, her loving husband of 52 years: Baxter; her three children: Kimberly, Darrell (Valerie), and Susan (Curtis); her greatest joys, her grandchildren: Emily, Michael, Alex, Gracie, Madison, and Caden; her cherished sisters: Iris (Ron), Masie (Eric), Shelia (Ben); sister-in-law: Betty; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law on the Bailey side.

Maxine will always be remembered for her love for a bit of fun and was always game for a bit of foolishness. She was a pro Santa Claus and who can forget her numerous performances as Rita McNeil.

She had a way with words that could leave you shaking your head and she never hesitated to approach a stranger if she needed help (putting oil in the car in Gander or when she went knocking on doors in Calgary when she got lost).

She loved shopping and never met a Walmart she didn’t like. She loved her career as a homecare worker and is remembered by many for her kindness and compassion in their time of need.

Being surrounded by family and friends was her favorite and as such, we invite you to share in a celebration of her life on June 23 on Fogo Island – time and location to be announced.
