My beloved big sister,
I grew up always knowing you would be there—through tears, laughter, hours of listening and talking, and even in silence. We could always count on each other.

To the family,
My sincerest condolences over the loss of an amazing mother. You have lost a gem but gained memories that have imprinted themselves upon the very fibres of your being, memories that no person of reason could deny have contributed to your great success in life.
Deann, you are like your mother, with a generous heart and an uplifted spirit, always ready to help and cheer someone on.
Duane, your badges of honour, courage, strength, and endurance remind me of the military-style home that Sheila kept. I remember the times Sheila would visit our house, and at the young age of six, I was rearranging my sock drawer the moment she entered the house. Everyone was at attention, but we all loved her presence because she was jovial and did it all out of love.
The same was true of my daughter, as I watched Angelique follow Sheila around with a bottle of Windex in tow. I also watched my father smile as he reminisced about Sheila.
Dana, I was jealous of you when I was young. Your mother was always by your side, pushing you to do better. You had the best calligraphy, and now your career is in education, helping others attain their optimum selves.
Whenever I spent time with Sheila, she always spoke about her children and grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of her life. She will be deeply missed.
There are so many things I learned from Sheila. For instance, she always said to spend fifteen minutes a day doing some sort of cleaning, as if that were all I needed to do. But I listened.
She gave me one of the greatest gifts when I graduated from university: a barbecue and the Bible that belonged to our grandmother. She knew what was important to people and cared enough to take the time to share.
With your kind heart and generous soul, I know the Lord was waiting with open arms at the pearly gates with your Howard. You always said that Howard would never allow you to go anywhere but Heaven, even if he had to pull you up by your hair. I don't think he needed to.The angels lifted you and brought you home, where your heart is and always was.

Our sympathy goes out to all the family. I have many memories of visits and phone calls with Sheila after she came into Howard's life and became part of our family. We had lots of fun and honest sharing of each other's views but the thing I remember most is how proud she was of her children. Every time we talked much of it was Sheila sharing the many accomplishments of Dwayne, Deann and Dana. I hope you all know how very proud your mom was of you.

My sister Sheila was always good to me those early years in Stephenville. Aways loaning me her car especially when she went out of town, inviting me to her home during holidays and special occasions, and introducing me to potential girlfriends she worked with at the hospital. (lol)
In later years her and Howard would stay several days at a time with me and my family in Curling. These were very memorable times also except maybe for washing the boys' baseball caps and running shoes in the washer.(lol).

As a child I remember Sheila left home but every Christmas she would send a parcel to us. On the day we received notice the parcel had arrived ,we would watch my father coming down the road holding that box in his strong arms,there was a gift for everyone of us in that box.,that is a very special memory I hold.
Life changed but that memory stays with me. Rest easy my big sister, I hope you are with your Howard...

Very sad to hear your mom passed,
I had many laughs with Sheila, I loved her and understood her most of all. In my family. Sheila loved and adored my dad and he the same for her. That was enough for me. I loved her from day one. She made me smile and laugh. Set in her ways strong headed and a bobcat In protecting dad. She will always have a special place in my heart. She finally has her wish and dad was there to meet her and take her home. Her loss for loneliness, sadness, and wanting is over .
Im sure she is up there with dad telling him to put on his hat . Lol
Love to all. I celebrate her tomorrow at the beach with a glass of wine and watch the sunset. Just as I celebrated dad only with a glass 1/4 full of whiskey.

So sorry to hear of Sheila’s passing. She worked with me at STRH. She was a kind and courteous worker. I visited her a few time when she came back here and when I would go to St John’s. RIP my friend.

I am so sad to hear of Sheila's passing. I worked with her at the hodpital in Stephenville and I smile at some of those memories. Kerry and I stayed in contact with her and Howard for a long time in Ontario,
and visited each other's home until they moved on. Although we had lost contact, I often thought about her and wondered how she was doing after Howard passed. I did not know she had returned to Nfld, where we also live now. How sad.

Shelia and I sat and many Conversations about life. She was part of my Guardian angels for Stephenville seniors. She told me many stories of her late husband Howard and her children. She was so sweet with a of of class . I missed her when she left Stephenville. Rest in peace my friend ❤️

Mom spent many years as a nurse while my siblings and I were growing up. She cared for others, worked hard to provide for our family, and nursing ultimately led her to meet Howard, the love of her life. During those years, our family journey took us from Newfoundland to communities across Canada, creating memories and experiences that shaped us. After Howard passed away in 2018, she missed him deeply. I take comfort in the thought that they are together again.
When we learned that the end was near, my sister and I travelled to Newfoundland to be with her. I am grateful that we had the opportunity to spend those final days by her side, to say goodbye, and to let her know she was loved.
Today, I choose to remember her strength, resilience, dedication to her family, and the role she played in shaping the person I became. Rest peacefully, Mom. ❤️

One thing I will never forget about Shelia is how she cared for our parents, especially dad when he got sick with cancer. She was always there bringing him as much comforth as she could.

My condolences to Sheila’s family on her passing. Sheila came into our family after meeting my brother Howard Thornhill in hospital after a horrible accident. It turned out to be a blessing as Sheila became a terrific life partner and friend. As a family we will always be grateful for how Sheila totally helped Howard get his life back together. They were good together and Howard became the light in her life and Sheila never really got over his passing. We can only pray that Sheila will be joined again with Howard as that is the only thing she wanted more than anything else. Sadly no more helping Sheila with her electronics and internet searches.

I will never forget the woman I grew up referring to as sergeant major. Lol.
Although she stood just to my shoulder, her personality, character and strength seem to stand 10 feet tall. She was truly a force in life, and even more so when it came to those she loved. She had a heart as big as all outdoors. Her laugh instantly made me crack up. She had a way of making you feel like you could do anything and so you should. Lol.
My fondest moments with her will always be our 2hr conversations. She spoke of everybody in every conversation. She loved more than anything to talk about her kids, grandkids, and of course dad. If it hadn't been for Sheila, I don't know that I ever would have known my dad as well as I did. To say that she'll be missed, is understated, and still ..I couldn't be happier for her now that her torment is over and she is finally at peace. I've no doubt she's with Dad now smooching his face and tormenting his last nerve.

I remeber the conversations granny Sheila and I had. She would always crack me up with her jokes. She always encouraged me to do great things and loved me with all of her heart. Sheila and Howard were our neighbors when we lived next door in Topsail, Newfoundland. They were our very good friends and neighbors as well as honorary grandparents to our son Aaron. They were very special people whom we adored. When they moved from Topsail to Sarnia, Ontario, the neighborhood was never the same for us. We visited them in Sarnia and always kept in touch. Life got in the way, Howard passed and we all lost touch. We often mentioned them in conversations and remember Sheila was always up for a party no matter time of day. She was fantastic and is etched into our memories. We have so much love for her. She is now with the love her life Howard. Rest in peace Sheila. We love you.
