Obituary of Margaret G. Merrigan

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret G. Merrigan at the Carbonear General Hospital on April 26th, 2011. Our mom died as she had lived, surrounded by her loving family whom she cherished above all else. Margaret was born on Bell Island, raised in Kingston but lived in Carbonear for most of her life. She was the daughter of Frank and Sarah Hurley. Besides her parents, Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband William, sister Mary Theresa, daughter Mary Margaret and grandsons Wayne Paul McGurk and Jamie MacAskill. Our mom was the heart and soul of our family - a shining, happy light who lit up the lives of all of us. All who knew her were drawn to her by her beautiful smile and her ability to bring happiness and laughter to all she knew. Many loved her - especially her card playing and dancing buddies. She is survived by four daughters: Catherine (Barry) MacAskill, Kennetcook, NS, Sadie (Jim) Holloway, Harbour Grace, Angela (Paul) Merrigan-McGurk, Halifax, NS and Helen (Charles) Merrigan-Martin, Gander; six sons: John (Margaret), Harbour Grace, Frank (Carol), Carbonear, Anthony (Rosalind), Upper Island Cove, William (Beverly), Carbonear, Michael, Mississauga, ON, James (Trudy Barrett), Fort MacMurray, AB; four brothers: Michael (Alverna), Buchans, John, Edmund and Frank, all of Kingston; four sisters: Julie (Pat) Doyle, Gull Island, Alice, Loretta and Cecily Hurley, all of Kingston. In addition, Mom has left behind 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren as well as two special daughters-in-law, Brigitte Merrigan of Herford, Germany and Linda Merrigan of Carbonear. Visitation will take place at Noel's Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Wednesday, April 27 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. and Friday, April 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Carbonear on Friday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carbonear. Donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Autism Society of NL or to Daffodil Place.
