MAHANEY, Bessie F. (Vaters) - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, March 11, 2004, Bessie F. (Vaters) Mahaney of Harbour Grace, formerly of Carbonear, age 81 years. Predeceased by husband: Roy; son: Johnny; daughter: Jean; daughter-in-law: Ruth; brother: George; sisters: Emmie and Julia; grandsons: Frederick James Vaters and Raymond Welcher; great-grandson: Corey Welcher. Leaving to mourn, five daughters: Elsie (Solomon) Welcher, Badgers Quay, Margaret (David) Higdon, Carbonear, Marjorie (Joe) Oliver, Fort McMurray, AB, Bessie Mahaney (Patrick Hillier), Harbour Grace and Edith (Peter) MacEwen, Harbour Grace; eight sons: Frederick (Ada), Carbonear, Leonard (Eileen), Harbour Grace, Thomas, Harbour Grace, Silas (Florence), Harbour Grace, Willis (Cindy), Carbonear Philip (Joan), Harbour Grace, Garfield (Linda), Harbour Grace, and Norman (Beverly), Tilton; thirty-one grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister: Betty Harnum, Victoria; brother-in-law: John Will Clarke, Victoria; sisters-in-law: Lillian Vaters, Victoria, Margaret French, Carbonear and Harriett Mahaney, Carbonear; aunt: Hester Clarke, Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear; very special friends: Captains Wayne and Betty Ann Pike, Carbonear and Pastor Robert and Shawna MacKenzie, Harbour Grace; a large number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Resting at NOEL'S FUNERAL HOME, WATER STREET, CARBONEAR until 12:00 noon Sunday, March 14. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel and Cemetery, Carbonear. Flowers gratefully accepted or as an expression of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army Cemetery or Band.
