Obituary of George Gilbert Burden

Passed peacefully away after a brief battle with cancer in Red Deer, AB, on Dec 31st, 2014, George Gilbert Burden, formerly of Carbonear, in his 81st year. Predeceased by his first wife, Betty (Sainsbury) and second wife, Carrie (Banfield); his parents, James and Elizabeth Burden; his mother, Doris Burden King; sister, Elizabeth Kelsey and brother, Calvin Powell. Leaving to mourn: devoted partner Barbara Hawthorne and her three adult children; his children, Donna (Patrick) Schlachter, Denver, CO, Karen (John) Comerford, Carbonear, NL, Linda (John) Boland, Cambridge, ON, Paul (Tina) Mississauga, ON and David (Margie) Red Deer, AB; grandchildren, Adam (Holly), Andrew (Cayla), Makayla, Alex, Mathew, Danielle, Elizabeth and James; two granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren in the US; brother, Bert (Paula) Powell, Cambodia; sisters, Sheila (Gordon) Anderson, Hantsport, NS and Marilyn (Ralph) Montgomery, Halifax, NS; also a large circle of other family and friends. George was a long-time member of the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL), the Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA) and the Masonic Lodge. He made a huge impact on his family and his community through his various affiliations including as a Master Locksmith, a Pinkerton Agent, and a local businessman. Cremation has taken place and private family inurnments will take place at a later date.
