Obituary of Walter A. Whalen

WHALEN, Walter A. (January 4, 1950 – February 28, 2015) Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on Saturday, February 28, 2015, Walter A. Whalen of Riverhead, Harbour Grace, age 65 years. Predeceased by parents: Walter and Emily; brother: Calvin and parents-in-law: Frederick and Mildred Vaters. Leaving to mourn, wife: Peggy; children: Jennifer (Lee) Janes, St. John’s, Janice (Carlos) Chung, Vancouver, BC, Sharon (Chris) Brake, St. John’s, Sharlene (Andrew) Winsor, Paradise and Michael (Stephanie) Fahey, Mount Pearl; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth, Amelia, Benjamin, Julia, Nicholas, Sarah, Katie, Riley, Lyla and Colton; three brothers: Glen (Colleen) and David (Pep), both of St. John’s and Barry (Heather), Mount Pearl; three sisters: Linda (Wayne) Mercer, Hodgewater Line, Cynthia (Brian) Philpot, Kilbride and Jeanette (Joseph) Hickey, Ottawa, ON; special aunts: Sadie Kirby, St. John’s and Nan Wheadon, Broad Cove; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Paulette Whalen, Mount Pearl, Wayne (Diane) Vaters, Ontario, Lester Vaters, Victoria, Rex (Debbie) Vaters, Pansy (Neville) Penney and Bonnie (Sam) Dean, all of Carbonear; special friends: Tom Perry, CBS, Gerry Traverse, Mount Pearl, Bob Wheadon, Adams Cove and Fred Reynolds, Riverhead, Harbour Grace; also a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. At Walter’s request, cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Riverhead, Harbour Grace. Inurnment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Harbour Grace.
