Obituary of Olive Martin
It is with deepest regret and heartfelt sorrow, that the family of Olive Martin of Harbour Grace, wishes to extend news of her passing on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 92 years of age.
Born in St. John’s, and raised in Sunnyside, she was a wife, Mother, Grandmother, and a friend to anyone who had the distinct pleasure of knowing her. She was a woman who endeared herself to all, and wore her heart on her sleeve, inspiring those she knew with her kind and gentle disposition, and beautiful spirit. Among her many talents and interests were knitting and crocheting which she truly enjoyed. Her family, however, was her reason for living, her reason for fighting, and her light in the darkness.
She is predeceased by her beloved son: Melvin; parents: Nicholas and Helen Parsons; sister: Gladys (Bob) Thompson; daughter-in-law: Peggy; brother-in-law: Tom (Helen); sister-in-law: Mary; niece: Isobel; nephews: Harold and Bob; and parents-in-law: David and Mary
Leaving to mourn, husband: Alexander; one daughter: Audrey (Jim) MacDonald, CBS; four sons: Basil, Frank (Bertha), and Rick, all of Harbour Grace, and Terry, Cambridge, Ontario; granddaughter (daughter): Michelle Rose; grandson (son): Christopher; 7 grandchildren: Lisa, Tammy (Paul), David, Cory (Beverly), Jason (Sheena), Michael (Melissa), and Alex; 17 great grandchildren: Tristan, Belinda (Tyson), Rebecca, Brandon, Brandon, Rebecca, Alexandra (Harrison), Cameron, Johnny, Zander, Makayla, Dustin, Lana, Morrison, Isabella, Marcus, and Calum; brother-in-law: Basil E.; 5 nephews: Arlin (Teri) White, Randy White, Tom (Cheryl), Roy (Vera), and Don; 4 nieces: Cindy (David) Engel, Betty (John) Lynch, Sylvia, and Geraldine; home support workers: Karen Mansfield, Maxine Sorensen, and Brenda Russell; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Doctors, Nursing staff, and health care teams at The Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Carbonear General Hospital for the levels of care they provided during her admissions. Together with her strength, determination, and perseverance, she was blessed with many more years of happiness with her family. We would also like to thank Dr. Button and Dr. Hayes for their continued involvement in her care while at home, the staff of Compassion Home Care for their kind-heartedness and dedication and branch 15 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Harbour Grace for their presence during her wake. Finally, a special thank you to Rev. Moses Tucker, Rev. Don Martin, the Anglican Parish of St. Paul’s in Harbour Grace, and Noel’s Funeral Home for their kindness and professionalism during such a difficult time.
Resting at Noel's Funeral Home, Harbour Grace on Thursday, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.; Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral service to take place on Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Harbour Grace. Inurnment to take place in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Grace on Monday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1037 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl, NL, A1N 5E9.
