The news of Carson's passing made me very sad. Both my husband Tom and I worked with Carson in our days at Goose Bay. I was a newly minted Captain and Carson was the stereotypical "crusty" Army Sgt Major (in a blue world no less). Of course, his true demeanour was anything but crusty and I count him as one of my most trusted mentors. My sincere condolences to Carson's family - he was certainly quite a guy and a true professional and I hope you can find comfort in all that he achieved in his lifetime.

I served with CWO Slade at CFB Gagetown in the early 1990s.
He was the RSM for the Technical Services Branch of 3ASG while I was the Commanding Officer. We worked very closely together and spent lots of time chatting about Supply, Tech Svcs and the CF in general. Amongst other things, I will always remember his care and concern for the soldiers, sailors and air women and men in our branch, regardless of their trade and the time he spent mentoring them, his sage and honest advice to me, his love of the supply trade and the CF, and his Newfoundland pride and unique sense of humour.
I also remember his love of and pride in his son. He spoke about him very often and it was always with the love of a proud father. I extend my sincere condolences to Trevor and the entire Slade family. SERVITUM NULLI SECONDUS

Carson always had some type of funny story to tell. He loved the Airbourne. Have fun jumping out of that perfectly serviceable aircraft in the sky. Rest In Peace my friend.

Serving with This Man, a Soldiers Soldier, Always, was such an inspirational adventure for me! Being a Female in the Military was hard at times, but, moreso, in an Army environment! CWO Carson Slade, took the time to help me, guide me, inspire confidence in whom he saw a a mousy little Supply Tech, a fellow Newfie who was not afraid to work, but, pretty obvious, who truly had very little Army Experience! His talks & advice were forever embedded in my mind, esp as I advanced in rank, I always had a reason to reflect back on those Conversations which truly served me well & I shall cherish always! Rest In Peace Sir! You will Always be Rembered with Such Fondness & Smiles!

Always had very positive interactions with him throughout my 38 yrs in the military. I fondly remember one time during a conference in Cornwall, ON, Carson lent me a set of combats since I somehow forgot to bring mine. I am 5' 5" and at the time about 150 lbs. Needless to say I had a lot of loose material hanging of me. Thanks for the laughs Carson.
