Very sorry to hear about Nathan's passing. We had good times on the Ocean Pond log cabin trips and he really enjoyed them. Since moving to BC we don't get back to "home" very often but we were kept aware of his health conditions by the log cabin members. He was a good person!

Elizabeth & family,
Sorry to read this morning the passing of Nathan/Mr.Rich
I remember the many visits to the Physics labs @ Mun, the social gatherings either at the university or other friends in the Physics community. Nathan was a brilliant mind and a very humble individual.
I will remember him with great fondness and thinking of you!!

I have only just learned of Nathan's passing, and I send my sincere condolences to his family. I met Nathan while I was the director of MUN's Writing Centre and, as others have written, I found in him a friend and the gentlest of men. I was struck by his passion for running, his love of music, and most of all by his steadfast support for what he saw to be just and true, unswayed by partisanship. The world - and most importantly, his family - has lost a wonderful man.

To Elizabeth and Family.
My condolences on Nathan's passing. I had the pleasure for many years to be involved in his care as we journeyed through multiple issues. We had many conversations on what was going on at MUN and the world, admiring his contribution to Memorial. He was always soft spoken at our encounters. I recognize the work and care done by you Elizabeth in later years helping with his care and coordinating that care.

Elizabeth and family,
Jim and I were very sorry to hear about Nathan’s passing. I knew Nathan as a colleague in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at Memorial University. Nathan impressed me as a very astute and rigorous physicist. We also both attended yoga classes at Memorial so I had a chance to see another side of him. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

In the early 1980s I did several physics course, including one with Professor Rich. He had a mellow teaching style that helped me learn. He had a beard and would sometimes sit and stroke it, reminding me a bit of a beaver in a funny way. He was also easy to startle. I tried standing by his desk until he noticed me, at which point he would jump. The other way was to approach him and say hi, at which point he would also jump! These memories stay with me - but the overall effect was of a friendly and knowledgeable prof who helped his students. Condolences to his family.
