So sorry and shocked to hear of Doug’s passing.
I spent most summer vacations visiting Doug and my other Penney relatives in Carbonear.
Doug loved to sing and had a great sense of humour. I have fond memories of a singalong we had with my husband, Reg, starting out with the Beverley Hillbillies theme song on the banjo. We all had Mrs. Coles’ old fashioned hats on and we danced and sang and it turned into a great kitchen party.
Each time I visited and spent time with Doug, I discovered more of his amazing abilities. He recounted to me a visit to our house in St John’s in1966 when he had supper with us and he remembered everything we had to eat and everything we said at the table. That had been 40 years earlier.
Douglas will be sadly missed by our family.
My condolences to Uncle Les, Dallas, Christine and family.

To Uncle Les, Dallas, Christine and families:
Sending along my deepest sympathy on Douglas passing. I was always very fond of Douglas as he held a very special place in my heart. I have so many wonderful memories and my favorite was babysitting him when his sister, Dallas was born. Over the years, Douglas visited our home in Carbonear quite a lot as he really enjoyed spending time with my mother, Doug's Aunt Kitty. We always had some good chats and Doug's memory was always so sharp. Although I am unable to attend, Please know I am thinking of you all and give Uncle Les my love. Love you Douglas.

To Uncle Les, Dallas, Christine and families:
We were saddened to hear of Doug's passing and offer you our sincere condolences. Douglas was so kind and gentle and loved a good visit and chat. We will always treasure the many visits he made to Mike's mom's and our homes. Over a little lunch, we would have a great conversation and he would give us a. update on family news. We were always amazed with Doug's memory. He remembered all the names and dates and events and if in doubt, you could always ask Doug. Doug kept active and involved in all community events and of course after moving to Victoria, attended the Victoria United Church where he became a member of the Men's Choir and Fellowship group. Doug loved going to church and singing and while he was able, attended regularly. May all your cherished memories and the love you shared bring you comfort now and in the days ahead. To live in the hearts of those we love, is not to die. Love lasts forever. Sing with the Angels Douglas.

Les,Dallas,Christine and families, our deepest sympathy for your loss. we have many memories of Doug. We remembered the time when we were in the boat on Shadow Lake and it began to rain heavy, we turned the boat around and headed back to the cottage, all the way back you could hear Doug laughing hard and loud as the rain hit us. For years after when we would see Doug he would remind us of that day on the lake. We also remembered Doug's ability to remember names, dates of those who had come and gone and those who were part of his life, it is a gift that few are given. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Uncle Les, Dallas and Christine and family. So sad to hear of Doug's passing. Doug was a special person who loved going to church and sharing memories. Doug possessed a great ability to remember special dates, birthdays and relatives. I have fond memories of collecting eggs at the hen house and was always amazed how Doug could remember, in his head, the number of eggs he collected. Doug never forgot to send a card each and every Christmas. RIP cousin Doug.

I have memories of my childhood summers being spent watching Doug,Dallas and Christine at the Penney's Poultry Farm. Doug collecting and counting the eggs. He could remember the numbers and tell pop Penney when asked. A sweet soul. Smart in many ways. Trips to the original Fong's Restaurant on Sundays. Dallas and I following not far behind.
