The family of the late George William Janes are saddened to announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, brother-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. George passed away peacefully at his home in Carbonear surrounded by his family at the age of 75 years on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Predeceased by parents: George W. and Drucilla; sisters: Phyllis (John) Cornish and Hilda (Bert) Power; brothers: Ambrose, Clarence (Evelyn), John, Leo, and David. Leaving to mourn his loving wife: Peggy; two daughters: Diane (Stephen) Barrett and Beverley (Dave) Baird, both of Carbonear; one son: Edward (Terry) Nepean, Ontario; four grandchildren: Alexis, Robert, Maxwell, and Devon; step-grandson: Nick; two great-grandchildren: Jayden and Brock; sisters-in-law: Phyllis, Carbonear, Iris, Truro, NS, and Debbie, St. John’s; as well as many more close family and friends. George had a distinguished career as a carpenter and continued long after his retirement. He served with the Carbonear Fire Department for 28 years and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 30 years. We would like to thank community health nurse John Pollett, Sandra Abbott of Medical Therapy Supplies and Dr. Bruce Doulton of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center for their excellent professional assistance allowing us to care for George at home. Following government legislation due to the pandemic, a private visitation will take place at Noel's Funeral Home, Carbonear, followed by funeral service at Bethany United Church, Carbonear by invitation only. Interment in the Interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear.
