My sincere condolences to Flo's extended family. I would have written earlier, however I just discovered Flo's obituary now, in May 2022.
My mother, Jean Murray Dougall (nee Day) was a good friend of Flo's. Their connection was likely initiated through my grandmother's (Jenny Day, nee Murray of Adam's Cove) network of Newfoundland friends.
My mother raised her family in Montreal, and Flo visited our home frequently. She was fun to have around, always energetic and a source of news on all of the Newfoundlanders whom my Mother and Flo knew in common. My brothers and I were keenly aware of their friendship and Flo's successful career at the Shriners. Nevertheless we would tease my mother about the her frequent hour-long phone calls with Flo.
My parents retired to Orillia in the 80's when Flo moved to Ottawa. My mother kept in touch though.
I last saw Flo about 15 years ago, when she and Mary visited my Mother at her summer cottage. She was the same person then as I recalled from decades earlier.
When I look back on the generations that came before, including family and friends of family, I can identify a few individuals that I really enjoyed and respected. Flo Pike was certainly one of those.
David Dougall,
Toronto
