Dear Dad,
On September 29, 2020 I received the call; my heart sank when I heard the news. I lost my loving Father, The man that called me every Sunday just to talk about what happened that week, we would talk about all of his friends that he would meet at the mall and god knows he was a great Meteorologist..lol I always knew what the weather was like in Newfoundland.
I remember a time when Dad lived in Ontario; I just bought a new car and was looking for someone to go cruising with. Gave him a call and he said sure Son, come pick me up.
We were going down Birchmont Road in Scarborough and got to the Danforth, I said hey Dad, let’s go to the Birchmont Tavern for a beer…He said sure...I was shocked. As you all know my father wasn’t a drinker... We sat at the bar listening to the old country favorites he enjoyed like Cash, Jones and The Hag, and enjoyed a few beers with my dad. To commemorate the day we bought Cowboy Hats...lol. It was a great memorable day with my Dad.
So now Dad I say Good Bye with a heavy heart, but I know that you were tired. I hope you enjoy meeting up with Cash, Jones and all the great ones up there. I can see you singing along with them and I am sure Norine is right by your side.
Love you always Dad,
XOXO
Your Son,
Ralph E. Steele

Dear Grandpa,
I'm so glad that God gave you 91 years upon this earth. Now, you get to enjoy everything that Calvary bought! Glory to God!
We are left to mourn, realizing that your presence, laughter, smile will no longer be felt or seen. Yet, I rejoice knowing that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
Though we didn't know each other very well and your visits to Ontario were very few, the time we did spend together were fill of laughs, stories and memories that will last forever!
One memory that comes to mind is the time that you stayed at our house and you slept in my room. One morning, I came in to get changed for school and there was your hairpiece on top of the lamp! I was shocked but also started to laugh. What a funny memory.
The last time I saw you was at mom's funeral. You were looking great and talked often about your knee surgeries that you were waiting for. The occasion was awful as you laid your daughter to rest but it was a great time of fellowship and laughs in spite of death.
Today, you've likely already taken up your mansion that Jesus talks about in John 14. No doubt you've made connections with your parents, brothers and sister. But best of all, you've been able to hug your daughter over and over and over again as together you walk the streets of gold enjoying the splendour and beauty of heaven.
"Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet will sound, and the dead will raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."
I know with sheer assurance in my heart that I will see you again one day! I look forward to sharing a cup of tea and seeing you with a full head of hair! Hallelujah! I am more excited about Heaven. I can't wait! :)
Until we meet again Grandpa, give mom a hug and kiss for me!
I love you!
Shane

Sorry to hear of Ern's passing. I remember him and his family from Northern Bay many years ago. I met him once in Ontario in the late 1970's and later I spoke with him a number of times in St. John's. He was always sociable and pleasant and he will always be remembered as such by those who knew him.
