Obituary of William B. Thorne

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Bernard Thorne on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the age of 74 years. Bill was born in St. John’s, the son of Mary Heather 'Ethel' and Harry; brother of Judy and Joan. He met the love of his life, Joan Turner, and married in Lower Island Cove 53 years ago. They then expanded their family to include children, Carl, Cindy, and Joy. Bill enjoyed summers in Lower Island Cove, taking care of his grandchildren and visits with family and friends. Predeceased by parents: Ethel and Harry; parents-in-law: Lillian and Raymond Turner, grandson: Brandon Lockyer. Leaving to mourn, wife: Joan; son: Carl (Kim); daughters: Cindy Thorne and Joy (Glenn) Lockyer; grandchildren: Caitlin Lockyer, Cayden Thorne, and Tyler Lockyer; sisters: Judy (Kevin) Farrell and Joan (Paul) Gillingham, as well as extended family and friends. Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Main Highway, Western Bay on Sunday, May 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service on Monday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. from Memorial United Church, Burnt Point. Interment in Bethal United Cemetery, Lower Island Cove. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
