Obituary of Janie Laing

It is with sadness and very heavy hearts that the family of Janie Loretta Laing of Carbonear announce her peaceful, sudden passing on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Janie was predeceased by her husband, Ephraim in 1993; grandson, Cory Laing in 1986; grandson-in-law, Patrick 'PJ' Shea in 2019; and her son-in-law: Charles 'Chuck' MacNeill in December 2022. Also predeceased by her parents, Augustus and Annie Oates; brothers, Eben, Jack, Joseph, and Winston; sisters: Gertrude, Janet, Betty, Dulcie, and Maxine. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Eugene (Eva), Conception Bay South, Ephraim Jr. (Sharon), St. John’s, Carter (Valerie), New Brunswick, Robin (Katherine), St. John’s, Judy MacNeill, Quebec, Philip (Sharon), Alberta, Joan (Keith) Whalen, Cupids, and Neil (Janet), Bristol’s Hope. Also leaving with special memories are her thirteen grandchildren, Stephen (Kara) Laing, Christopher (Claudette) Laing, Christine (James) Evans, Lisa Shea, Jennifer (Kirk) Pitaoulis, Mathieu MacNeill, Michael (Christina) MacNeill, Susan (Nigel) Malcolm, Jacqueline Laing, Joshua Laing, Kathleen (Jeremy) Inman, Allison (Matthew) Keats, and Ashley (Tyler) Aird. Janie was also a loving great-grandmother to her sixteen great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Alex Laing, Connor and Clarke Laing, Ethan and Lauren Evans, Patrick and William Shea, Eli and Leo Pitaoulis, Avery and Ashton MacNeill, Lennon and Eilidh Malcolm, Molly and Emelia Inman. Janie will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends. Janie was a true lady whose life centered around her family. Her door, like her heart, was always open to everyone. She will be missed and will remain forever in many hearts. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Friday, January 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. from Noel's Memorial Chapel, Carbonear. Interment in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Carbonear.
