Passed peacefully away at Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on Thursday, February 16, 2023, Shirley Marie Byrne of Harbour Grace, age 71 years. Predeceased by parents: Peter and Veronica Whalen; infant siblings: John, Ralph, and Bridget; brothers: Jim (Annie) Whalen, Tom Whalen, Leo Whalen, Ned (Marina) Whalen, Allan (Glenys) Whalen, and Terry Whalen; sisters: Alice (George) Newman, Theresa (Cecil) Smith, Rose Earle, Veronica (Abner) Snow, and Mary (Jim) Newman; sisters-in-law: Emma Whalen and Gertrude Whalen. Leaving to mourn, husband: Leo; two daughters: Nichole Byrne (Mark Coppard), ON, and Ashley Byrne (Matthew Hiscock), Spaniard’s Bay; twelve grandchildren: Brady, Shay, Sara-Anne, Daniel, Casey, Laila, Lamar, Owen, Isabelle, Riley, Jayden, and Ellie; two brothers: Mike Whalen and Peter Whalen, both of Spaniard’s Bay; sisters-in-law: Doreen Whalen and Alice Whalen; special niece: Nancy Connors; bingo buddy Christine Galway; also a large number of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Visitation at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Sunday, February 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Tuesday, February 21 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Riverhead, Harbour Grace. Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Upper Island Cove. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in her memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, P.O.
