Florence Crane Mullin of Connecticut, Sarasota, Florida and Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, passed away peacefully at age 101 in Waterford, Connecticut on Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the company of family. Flo was the daughter of Henley and Elizabeth (Noel) Crane, born January 10, 1920, and was the last of the 8 Crane siblings from the Lane in Harbour Grace. She was a proud, loving, gracious, feisty individual whose faith in God never wavered. Flo had come to America in 1943 to assist her sister Beatrice McLaughlin in the birth of her first child and to support her father who worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard during WW2. Previously in Newfoundland, Flo was a teacher and after coming to the states, entered the banking profession, first at Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC, and later at Sarasota Savings and Loan in Florida. It was at the former that she met and married James Maxon in 1953 and moved to Sarasota in 1959. Jim passed away in 1974 and she later met and married Walter Mullin from Elkhart, Indiana and Sarasota in 1977. After Walter’s passing in 2002, Flo travelled back and forth to Harbour Grace where she also maintained a home. Flo was predeceased by her sisters Beatrice, Anne, Louise and her brothers Donald, Gordon, Albert, and Llewellyn. Flo did not have children but had many nephews and nieces left to mourn her loss. Family members include Thomas and Donna McLaughlin, James McLaughlin, Elizabeth and James Warykas from Connecticut; Donna Cady, Michelle Austin, and Maureen and Jeff Hanna of California; Charles and JoAnne Archibald, Barbara Archibald, Faye and Keith Foote, Joan and Cyril Durnford, Evan Crane, Tracy and Colleen, from Newfoundland, Stephen from South Carolina, and Georgina from Washington. Other family members include Rose Crane, Robina Crane and lifelong friend Jean Bickham. Flo was very active in church affairs at Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota and at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Harbour Grace. She was a member of the Daughters of the King, The Saint Mary’s Organization, and volunteered at the Sarasota Episcopal thrift store in addition to having taught Sunday school. A funeral service will be held at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland on Thursday, September 7th at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the family plot where she will be joined with her beloved mother & father.
