Obituary of Wm. Guy Penney

Please share a memory of Wm. Guy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, September 22, 2023, William Guy Penney of Carbonear, age 83 years. Predeceased by his loving wife: Ada L.; parents: William and Doris; infant son: David; brothers-in-law: Albert and Jim (Lorraine) Wareham; niece: Brenda Lewis; nephews: David Pike and Keith Wareham; parents-in-law: Chesley and Janie Wareham. Leaving to mourn, his caring daughter: Deanne (Eddie) Whelan, Carbonear; one son: Craig, Ontario; his pride and joy, granddaughters: Jane (Daniel), Ally (Josh), and Emma (Josh); one grandson: Austin; one brother: Roy (Bonnie) Penney, Paradise; three sisters: Judy (Cyril) Anthony, Clarke’s Beach, Yvonne (John) Antle, Victoria, and Glenis (David - deceased) Pike, Carbonear; brother-in-law: Lon (Venie) Wareham, St. John’s; sisters-in-law: Ruby (Donald, deceased) Pike, Carbonear, Frances (Ken) Coombs, Upper Island Cove, and Inez (Jordan) Lewis, Carbonear; also a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Guy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and so much more. He was an energetic character who was always ready for an adventure, a good yarn, and a few toe tapping tunes. Guy was no stranger to hard work and spent many years working away from home. His career began in Labrador, working with the Iron Ore Company of Canada. He could talk about his time in Lab City for hours, reminiscing all the memories made with friends who became family. He loved to travel, whether it was a solo trip to Mexico in the 1960s or the many road trips with his beloved wife. While he never hesitated to call somebody’s bluff or share his opinion, he would always be the first to offer the shirt off his back to someone in need. The Royal Canadian Legion in Carbonear, Branch 23 was an important part of Guy’s life, celebrating his 50th year as a member this past spring. He spent many years as a Cadet and Officer of the 589 RCACS Carbonear Air Cadets. Visitation at Noel’s Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Sunday, September 24 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Carbonear. Interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Mahaney’s Lane, Carbonear. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the 589 RCACS Carbonear Air Cadets, P. O. Box 589, Carbonear, NL, A1Y 1C1.
