Obituary of John 'Jack' Hiscock

Passed peacefully away after a lenghty battle with ALS at Carbonear General Hospital on June 20, 2024, John 'Jack' Hiscock of Carbonear, age 74 years. Jack fought a courageous battle with ALS for 4 ½ years. Jack was born in Lily Pond, Carbonear. He was a proud CN Railway man for 32 years, working his way up the ranks to steel worker, following in his fathers footsteps as a CN worker. After retiring he was a devoted volunteer at Carbonear Lion’s Club for many years. To honour John’s memory the family requests an act of kindness towards one another. Predeceased by son: Allan; parents: John A. and Ella Mae (Vaters); sisters: Jessie (Reg) Hiscock, Mary (Ernest) Janes, Mildred (Philip) Snow; brother: Roy, baby brother Allen, infant twin brothers; nephews: Jeffrey, Derrick Hiscock; niece: Joan Penney; great nephews: Matthew Hiscock and Andrew Burry; special little ones: Jade and Ben; brother-in-law: William (Doreen) Torraville; sister-in-law: Florence (Ambrose) Humby, Muriel Torraville; good friends: Gordon Gosse and Hubert Lahey. Leaving to mourn, wife of 53 years: Hilda Louise; special nephew: Darren (Sandra) Torraville; great nephew: Mark Torraville; great niece: Sarah Torraville; brother-in-law: Harold (Ellen) Torraville; sister-in-law: Sylvia Chislett; special friends: Tina Erickson and daughter Ghracie, and Lori (Paddy) O'Keefe; best buddies: Don Barrett, Brian Hickey, Dave Slade, George Butt, Kevin Roberts, Chris Lahey, Leo Sullivan, Donny Clarke, Dave Antle, Louie Laundry, and John Stewart; nephews and nieces: Greg (Bev-deceased) Hiscock, Scott (Susan) Hiscock, Connie (Shawn) Burry, Ernie (Janice) Janes, Laurie Ann (Terry) Street, Angela (Greg) Burry, Sharon (Floyd) Janes, Jennifer (Wally) Sutton, Stentaford Snow, Marilyn (Darren) King, Cathy Butt, Nancy (Paul) Pynn, Johnny (Amanda) Torraville, Sherry Lynn Torraville, Telva and Theresa Humby; friend: Renetta Roberts and Dylan Nicholas; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitaion at Noel's Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear on Sunday, June 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Tuesday June 25 at 2:00 p.m. from Noel's Memorial Chapel, Water Street, Carbonear. Cremation will take place and burial will be held at a later date.
