It's so sad to lose touch with friends only to find that one has past. I worked with Peter when he had his craft business in Sydney. He taught me so much about the craft and the value of every little piece of scrap wood. I am sure if there was a market for it, Peter would have made toothpicks out of stuff that was too small for everything else! My deepest - and late - condolences!

Anna, Michael, Donovan and the Bursey family, it was such a pleasure to be in your company today at one of the most difficult times of your lives. "Uncle" Peter was such an amazing person who always made you feel loved. His sense of humour gave me some of the best "belly laughs" I've ever had in my life. Even though we haven't seen a lot of each other over the past few years, I will always remember when I was a little girl and he would call me his "Queens of the world". I truly loved him and respected him more than you could ever know...please think of him smiling, and your pain will turn to joy.

Anna, Michael and family; so sorry to hear of Peters passing. I will always remember Peter letting me borrow his drum kit (sometimes for days) when I was a teenager. He had a set of vintage Ludwigs that had great sound and he let me borrow them all the time - no questions asked! Not every person would do this. He was kind hearted and always shared a laugh. He did a lot for our community, he was a great musician and he will be missed.

Anna and Michael, our sincerest condolences. we were both so saddened to hear of Peter's passing. We have shared so many great times, it was always such a pleasure to be in Peter's company. His many talents such as his crafts, music, and songwriting will be enjoyed for many years to come. His hard work and dedication to the formation of the AYLA has led to 25 successful years and counting. What great insight to know what the community needed and the courage to make those dreams a reality. A true leader indeed. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. Godspeed Peter.

I am Peter Bursey's niece, of Roy Bursey (Montreal). I want to share my very deepest memory of playing my Uncle's record of Newfoundland folks songs when I was a young girl. These he recorded with his band of other Newfoundland musicians. Perhaps one of many he made, but this one was a mainstay in our home. I remember sitting in my basement playing it over and over and singing along to all the songs. I remember the song about "Daddy Frank"who was blind.. it is pretty amazing I can still recall the words. I also recall him coming to visit us when we were young and lived Montreal and making a film of my sisters and I. We were acting out a magic show and he dressed us with capes and hats, and have us hold wands, shoot a short bit, tell us to hold super still, stop the camera, and then remove one of my sisters, and start the filming again.. the final movie produced the effect that my sister had disappeared. We had several of his sketches framed on our walls at home, scenes of Newfoundland's rocky shorelines, fishing wharfs. The last time I saw him was in 1997, when I visited him in Island Cove. I remember seeing his workshop that he had created in the barn. He had started a business making Christmas ornaments. They were lovely wooden sleds, santas, houses. He was magical to be around, had an infectious laugh and a love of community and family. I am so terribly sad I have not seen him in years. My deepest sympathy to Anna and Michael.
Love to you all,
Anne

Anna, Michael and all the Bursey Family: We were so sorry to hear the news that Peter had passed away. Peter was a very talented person who always had a great sense of humor. We had great times together and we will always remember Peter for his music and great story telling. We still have a copy of his last record and wished we could have played it today but we no longer have a turntable. We looked at his pictures and talked about many fond memories. We wish we were closer so that we could offer our condolences and deepest sympathy in person. Our heartfelt thoughts are with you in your time of sorrow.

To the Bursey Family. So Sorry to hear about Peter's passing. Peter was a fine man, Always friendly, with a smile on his face, especially when he told his jokes. I met Peter in High School where we always chatted and chatted. I danced to his songs at Joe's, Old Perlican, especially the song “ The House of The Rising Sun ” and later worked with him in the capacity of Monitor on the wharves. He was always upbeat even during his sickness. The world is a much better place for having had a Peter Bursey. Enjoy your memories ,Anna ,and Family. Peter, The song by Styx, Come Sail Away, is very appropriate at this time. So Peter Sail Away, Sail Away. Eric and Linda Milley

Anna and Michel, so sorry to hear about Peter's passing. I came to know Peter through my dear friends Debbie and Allan about 12 years ago. This is not a long time, but I will remember how he always enjoyed a good visit and chat, sharing a drink and a few laughs, and serenading us with his wonderful voice and guitar playing. His voice always reminded me of Gordon Lightfoot. We had some fun memorable times in your kitchen. They will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with you at this time.
