Dear(Uncle) Max You may not have been my uncle through family but you were always considered Uncle Max to me. I have so many fond memories of out in the Cove as a little girl. All the hay rides in summer, to down on the old stage with you, Nellie and Tom, bringing up the fish while I waited on the steps going up to the loft with my apron on so we could cut out the britches to fry them up. I remember going to the old celler to get potatoes for dinner and going up along shore in your boat for a ride. All the games of Rook you played with mom and dad while I sat on the old couch and watched. I remember all the dogs you had and the kittens "Puss" had too. Even when I got older I never forgot about out in the Cove. I would visit every weekend and bring donuts for us to eat. These are but a handful of the memories of out in the Cove with you, Nellie and Tom. Memeries I will never forget. Lower lsland Cove is a sadder place today because you are not there. Your whit, charm, and kindness will always be in my heart. You were a big part of my past and I think of you often. You are at peace now with the people you love. Say hi to Nellie, Tom, puss and the dogs. Look over us and rest in peace Uncle Max! Love Always, Pauline Turner Froude.

To Uncle Max
We're sorry we could not be there to bid you farewell. We would like to thank you for sharing your life with us and the great memories you now leave for us to cherish.
You were such a warm person to be around, from your never ending teasing which Kenny remembers to your whisker kisses, which by the way, wasn't pleasant for me but told us both, no matter what, you made us feel special. The trips on the water fishing with you were both exciting and interesting, exciting by all the cod fish caught and impressed by the hard work which you made look so easy.
Memories of watching you, Auntie Nellie, Tom and Mr. Bish and his family split, clean and salt the fish. Moving about on the old stage without a worry in the world, while we tried to figure out how to walk on it, will last forever. We especially remember you trying to get us to taste the cod liver oil from that old rusty barrel, that smell was enough to kill you, let alone taste it. We will never forget the hay rides we took with you and our friends Clyde and Ruby and the many trouting trips to Mare's Pond you always found time to take us on (we still can't figure out how you always caught the most) some say you had the Midas touch but we think you were just special.
.
.We fondly remember when friends would gather for the sing songs in your living room
Uncle Raymond Leshane would play the organ and we would sing our hearts out or the times when Lloyd Leshane would visit in the mornings, have a chat and be gone till the same time the next day. You sure had some visitors in your house and many cups of tea were shared at your table. We got to experience all of that because you loved us. Thank you.
We will never forget as kids growing up going to Mr. Cliff's for baloney and cheese, the laughs and shenanigans were legendary. You two were quite the pair. The berry picking trips in on the barrens followed by the "boilups". Now that was some kind of living.
Uncle Max you amazed us with your woodworking skills, the boat you made which is on display in the AYLA building, and patience to create little things. You taught us fishermen knots, how to ride your horse but most importantly how to enjoy the little things in life. Some people say "Life is like waiting for the storm to pass, but by watching you, we learned how to dance in the rain." There are lots of Uncles in the world but few friends, you were both.
We saw how all the trees you planted in your garden are now big enough to enjoy and you are not here to appreciate them.. . We could go on and on reminding you of stories that we shared with you, but know this, you will be greatly missed. We're happy for you now though, Uncle Max, you are with your Lord and Saviour. Say hi to Auntie Nellie and Tom for us. Catch a trout for us. Watch for us, we'll be looking for you.
Love Myrtle

On behave of Mark, Vanessa and myself we are sad to hear that Mr Max has passed away. We have many fond memories of him. When I was a little girl he always called me Sissy, my parents thought for sure I would never know my name, every time that I had seen him since then, he still called me that.Always a pleasure to talk with him.
