To All of Joy's Family, I just leaned of your loss. Joy was more than a colleague to me, when I taught at Persalvic. She was an inspiration and she brought such Joy to everyone. I would go to school early to go into the staff room to hear all of Joy's wonderful stories. Joy was so proud of and loved each and every member of her family. Joy was certainly well named. Cherish all of your wonderful memories. It's really hard. So many times you will want to tell her something and you can't. But even though she's gone, you can be sure that her LOVE is still with you. Praying for you at this difficult time. Heather Squires

Fred and family... Joy enjoyed so many accomplishments, many successes, a wealth of hopes and dreams fulfilled, days and days well-lived, well travelled and now a legacy to celebrate. May sweet memories of the gem that was your wife and mother, encourage you at this time. One memory we will cherish are the occasions when she would call to express on behalf of Fred(son) his best wishes to " Mr. Andrews". And she would say.. " Now make sure you tell Mr. Andrews what Fred said ".. Yes.. blessed are those who have such gems ... as parents or teachers in their midst. May she forever shine along your pathway as ye journey forward without her physical presence.

It was with a great sense of loss that we heard of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Joy Rose. She was “one of a kind.” She was very involved with her family, her school, her Church and many friends. We fondly remember her from school where she was a dedicated, unique teacher; loved by all; and had a wit that was infectious. Joy was very intelligent and when she achieved a full-time position at Persalvic Elementary, after years of substituting and replacement positions, she continued her education. In fact Joy achieved her Master’s Degree yet, never attended full-time studies. She spent years traveling to Memorial University at St. John’s, in Summer, Winter and Spring, she also went after school, and took part-time studies. She was an inspiration and a role model for both students and teachers alike. Everyone who ever met her liked her and her students adored her. She was patient, kind and laughed easily. One of the things I remember about her was a story she told me many years after I was lucky enough to have her as a full time teacher on my staff. She said, “You know Mr. Clarke, there were a good many mornings when you called me that I had my hands in the bread pan.” That was Joy, a woman of grace, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dedicated teacher. Another fond memory we have of Joy is her love of gardening. One time in particular she admired a specific purple flower in our garden. She couldn’t find one anywhere so Sandra brought her two from Corner Brook; one for her and one for her best friend Gladys. She often joked that when she was driving by our house she was afraid she was going to end up in the ditch because she was looking at the flowers as she drove by. That’s the Joy we remember; full of JOY with a zest for life. We will never forget her.

to the Rose family, sorry to hear of the passing of such a wonderful lady! I had the honor of having mrs rose as my grade 5 teacher and I remember sitting in her classroom just like it was yesterday. she took pride in her classroom and her students and always had a smile who would light up the room! only a few years ago before my own mother passed away, mrs rose called my home and because I was visiting with my mom I missed her call but she left a message with my mother in law. she called to let me know that she had been thinking about me and that day she was cooking a meal for her family and she took out the apron that I gave her as a gift in grade 5... she wanted me to know that I would be with her all day ! hard to imagine after many year that she could pull a apron out and recall what student gave it to her! I will never forget the way I felt about that day, it says a lot for a teacher to remember th kinds of things! I hope that god gives you the strenth to get through the days ahead and the memories and love you shared gives closure as time passes by! thinking of you all Robin Slade (Butt)

To Uncle Fred, Stephen, Jeanette, Annette, Freddy, precious grandchildren and family, we are so saddened to learn of aunt Joy's passing. Find peace in knowing that Heaven is blessed with a most beautiful and amazing angel. Aunt joy enriched our lives in many ways. In the face of adversity , her glass was always 'half full'. Among her last words with us this summer were, "if I have only a 15% chance, I'll embrace every minute of it!" That day, we went home with a loaf of fresh baked bread from her hands!!! She had only just finished a treatment but had "energy to go" she said. Wow, who else would be not only baking bread... But then giving it away.... Only Aunt Joy! We loved to sit and share about her travels and cruises. Her tremendous recall of detail was incredible, not to mention her wit and way with words. It could sure make for an entertaining and informative evening! Soy, tofu and grape seeds are all part of our diet now due to her extensive knowledge about their health benefits. Many gardens contain the roots of her labor and when our lilies bloom, Aunt Joy will be in our thoughts. We wish we could be there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
