BREWER, Roland A.- Roland A. Brewer, died peacefully at home in Bristol's Hope, NL during the early hours of Christmas Eve at the age 92 . A native of Fredericton, NB, he is predeceased by his parents: Orlo and Alice (Grey) and two brothers: Orlo and Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Margot (Viehweger), her son Nick Cutts and his wife Mary Bertucci Cutts of St. Petersburg, FL. Roland is also survived by his three daughters: Margot Brewer, a law student at the University of Ottawa; Allison Brewer, Leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party, and Merredith Brewer, a businesswoman and consultant in Fredericton, and her husband Richard Mann. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Justin, Jackson, Oliver, Will, Christopher, Cameron, Anna and Katie, and a niece, Patricia Good of Fredericton. Roland graduated from the University of New Brunswick Law School in 1949 and after practicing law in Fredericton for several years, became a member of the Newfoundland Bar in 1967. He retired from his Carbonear practice at the age of 80, but continued his involvement in a number of business enterprises in the area. Roland was a Master and Taxing Officer of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and was made an Honourary Life Member of the Law Society of Newfoundland in 1992. He was a veteran of the Second World War and has been a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Carbonear. Inquisitive by nature, Roland was a life-long learner, studying German up until the time of his death. He was fascinated by ingenuity, loved to cook, read and spend time with his dog Nikko. Active to the end, Roland led a long, healthy and successful life and will be mourned by his family and those who knew him well. In lieu of flowers Roland asked that, as an expression of sympathy, a donation be made to the Children's Wish Foundation. Arrangements are being handled by Noel's Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial Service at Bethany United Church in Carbonear on Friday, Dec. 30 at 2:00 p.m. A reception at his home in Bristol's Hope will follow the service. All are welcome.
