We have been thinking a lot about Max and the whole family today. We have lost a fine neighbour and a good friend. Max was thoughtful, generous and kind. He possessed a great sense of humour – in our very first conversation over the fence we exchanged sharp, witty remarks and both burst out laughing. That set the tone for our friendship. Max was also thoughtful and knowledgeable and we both learned much about the community from Max. It is a small but fitting tribute to his wisdom that Margaret has acknowledged his help in her forthcoming book. We shall miss him greatly. Terry and Margaret Mackey

I have many stories that I could share of Max...From my many visits to the garage with vehicles that he would patch up for me and send me on my way knowing full well that I would be seeing him again soon. I remember about 1993-94 I had an old car and lost the engine ( I did not know it at the time) going around the bay,one sunday evening. I called Max... In my mind who else was I going to call when I had engine trouble. I called him and he had me take the cordless phone out to the parking lot of the apartment building, start the car and let him listen so he could give me some advice. His advice was... the engine is gone... Don't bother a tow truck...keep putting oil into it and see how far around the bay you can before it gives out... will save you few $$ on a tow truck... Well I took his advice and had quite a memorable trip around the bay... I made it as far as Brazil's Hill.
However, since I have moved away from SS I have not seen him as much as I probably should have. He would be the first to tell any one that life is too short and we should be getting together more than we do.
I can recall one Christmas night when myself Bill Spurrell and Wade Sheppard were visiting... We did our thing on the lower end of SS and proceeded up the road went to Terry Norman's and ended up at Max's... My self with odd shoes.... That was around 1991-1992 and for years after every time I seen him he would first look at my feet and give a great laugh and just shake his head... for a few years we always ended up at Max's when I say ended up I should say ENDED at Max's. He always loved to see us comimg (well at least he gave that impression anyway) we were made to feel very welcome and offered many drinks and a few songs. I cannot ever remember getting pass Max's during Christmas nor do I ever remember going back down the road.

Hattie,Glenda,Craig,Jennifer and families, we were so saddened to hear of Max's passing. Just recently had the pleasure of talking to both your Mom and Dad, it was so good to see them. They were always a joy to be around, especially when Max would take out the guitar and play. He certainly enjoyed it to the fullest. Today he is in heaven playing, while the angels are singing. Please accept our deepest condolences at this time and know your in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. God Bless.

Our sencere condolences to all Max's family. He will be sadly missed by so many people. Max was a wonderful man with many great qualities. When he was in business, he took pleasure in being able to give the low income receiptients a break on their invoice. He always had a joke to share and enjoyed a good laugh. He was everyone's friend that was willing to help in any way he could. I pray God will grant you the strength to help all of you through this most difficult time. Keeping you in our prayers, Glenn and Linda

Aunt Hattie & family, Another piece of my heart is torn away again today. When we lose someone who was as large as life itself it makes it that much harder to accept the fact they are gone. From Christmas times at our house when we were small, to the visits "home" when you lived away, to just standing around the garage watching Uncle Max fix my car, I can say he was always a pleasure to be around and could make any frown turn into a smile. So, today & the days to come we must all remember those wonderful times shared, big or small, and try to turn tears into laughter, which I KNOW, Uncle Max would do!! Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers...Love Yvonne & family
