Julia and Katrina and the rest of the family, sorry to hear the news of your dad's passing. Rest assured that on that particular weekend I tried to make contact but had no idea where you girls were. I visited Noel's only to find out that after the funeral service you would receive friends and guests. Unfortunately due to committments I had to be in St. John's. Yes, I am still a master with the shears. Please email so we can correspond a bit more personally. Derrick

Dear All, I have happy memories of hiding in that great old house in Carbonear, playing dressup in Celia's lovely old clothes and banging around in the barn at the back. Every once in a while we would head up to the magical attic. I remember Dr. Murray as a kind, gentle and funny man. I was very impressed when he refused to get flustered about getting us all to school on time one morning when I had slept over and we were obviously going to be late. Very liberating. Both he and Celia were good friends to our family, and I will always remember their kindness, especially after my mother died. Best wishes to you all.

So sorry to hear of your father's death, which we did via the Newfie grapevine. Peter was a great help & support, both professionally & personally. This was evidenced on our arrival from the U.K. in 1966 & when dear Jennifer died in 1968. You may remember he was my best man when I remarried in 1970. His sense of humour was invaluable to colleagues, hospital staff at all levels &, of course, to patients. Very fond & treasured memories of both your parents. In sympathy to you all. Carol & John Bessell.

To The Murray Family Sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Murray. As an x-ray tech @ Carbonear Hosp I had many encounters with Dr. Murray. He never hesitated to give a helping hand when I was doing a portable x-ray or struggling with the heavy equipment in the operating room. He always helped out & no task was beneath him. He worked long difficult hours but his disposition was always pleasant and caring. A truly great man! Joan Peddle

I am very sorry to hear that your father has passed on. I have many fond memories of going to your house when we were kids and having great meals (and homemade bread) prepared by your Mom. I also recall that your Dad was best man to my father when he remarried in 1970. He drove us into St. John's for the wedding. Nicola and I got car sick -your Dad handled it very well! Indeed he did have a great smile, and I will remember that always. I recently stayed overnight in your old house in Carbonear - I think I slept in Rosemary's room. I have some wonderful memories of you all in that house, and I will think of you all whenever I visit Carbonear. Warm wishes, Clare

Nick, Catriona, Julia, Rosemary and Donald: I feel very privileged to have known your parents in the privacy of their home and to have carried on a freindship with you all for so many years now. I cherish found memories of my time in Carbonear in 1987/1988 when I was kindly "adopted" by your parents... It will always remain with me. The love and dedication they shared towards each other and with you all was deep and profound, sprinkled with a unique sense of humour that made you all so much stronger. Your dad was a lucky man to have his family gather around him to take care of him in his last years away from home in a new province. The care and dedication he always showed you throughout your life was returned to him in the comfort of Catriona and Philip's house. Our thoughts have been with you all week and especially today. Ian and I share your sadness. We will remember your dad's kindnest and gentleness forever. Danielle & Ian

He told me I was the only man ever to have "escaped him" three times in a few short weeks. he was a good doctor who surely affected the lives of a lot of people in the Carbonear area. Murray Family I grew up here, so like most other people in this community I knew of Dr. Murray's ability as a surgeon. I expect there aren't many families here that he did't touch at some time. I became administrator of Carbonear Hospital in 1990 and was humbled at the prospect of dealing with people like Dr. Murray, and many others so revered. Much to my relief I soon found these gifted people to be both kind and considerate, and none more so than Dr. Murray. He was always obliging, always pleasant, and most certainly always professional. I think if he ever expressed any frustration, it was at other people's inability to get along with each other, which he genuinely could not understand. I got to know Dr. Murray quite well over the seven or eight years leading up to his retirement. His family was his prioity and Mrs. Murray's failing health his heart break. Never a word of concern for himself. It was a privilege to have hnown Dr.Murray. George Butt

To the Murray Family: So sorry to hear of Dr. Murray's passing. We were priviledged to have known Dr. and Mrs. Murray for a long time. Working with Him at CGH was always a pleasure, he always met you with that big smile and was never too busy to stop for a little chat or at least a few words. Over the years, on different occasions, Mike did some renovations on the Murray Home. We were always made so welcome. I always enjoyed a good chat with Mrs. Murray even though I was terrified of those big dogs. Dr. Murray was somewhat of a legend in this area and his memory will live on for a long long time! We were very saddened to hear about the passing of your father. We are some of the nurses that worked with your father at Carbonear General Hospital over the past 15-20 years. Just mentioning your father's name brings a smile to our faces. I guess that could be largely due to the fact that he always had a big smile on his face , a kind word to say and a gentle tap on our behind. He always treated us nurses with respect and valued our opinions. That might have been partly due to the influence of your mother who was also a nurse, and no doubt would remind him of his manners when dealing with us. I am sure we can speak on behalf of all nurses at Carbonear Hospital when we say that we all have humerous stories that involve things that your father had done to us and to this day can give us a chuckle. Like the times he used to throw Ann in the baby's crib, put up the siderails and walk away leaving her to be rescued by her co-workers. The relationship we had with your Dad was very special, unique and rare. We could only wish to be so lucky as to have another such relationship in the future. But there will never be another Dr Murray in our hearts and minds. Take comfort in knowing that so many people cared about and had fond memories of your Dad. Sincerely,Ann Power,Karen Griffen,Debbie Tuttle,Cathy Bussey,Gayle Reid

However, my fondest memory would be the evening of March 6, 1999 where at the Carbonear Kights of Columbus, a retirement celebration was held in honor of your wonderful dad. The hall was filled to capacity with many special guests including Drs. Rowe, Wells, McMahon and Saltman.
