Mrs.Skinner,Don,Keith,Judy,Shari & Families. It is with great sadness that I hear of Mr. Skinner's passing. I remember him with fond memories of spending time at your home with Shari and later years at Keith & Marie's. Whenever I met him, we had many laughs about the trees that are now growing tall in their garden in Bristols Hope and where they came from. Mrs. Skinner, I know you will get through these difficult days ahead with the blessing of your strong faith. May God be with you each & every day, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love Linda

Moose Hunting
I remember chatting Gordon in the wheelhouse of the M.T. ZEVEN one time while waiting for some of his crew to come onboard. He was standing back on to me and looking out the window on the port side towards the wharf. Moose season had just started and a few of his regular deckhands had taken time off to get their moose. I asked him quite innocently "Do you go moose hunting Gordon? He turned from the window with that trade mark smile and said, "Me, moose hunting? Sure they move don't they? No Boy, I have job enough trying to find a Christmas tree!"
I never forgot that and it brings a smile to my face every time I think on him.
May God Bless you always, Gordon.

Mrs. Skinner & family, It is with a great sadness, yet with many very fond memories that I remember Gordon. I remember Gordon from his FPI days in Trepassey when I used to help line up his trawler crews for his many trips to the fishing grounds. It was always a pleasure to call your house. Gordon was a very kind, caring and supportive Captain; a man always ready to give everyone a first chance, or maybe even a second, a third, or more, to make it as a deckhand, a cook, an engineer, a mate or whatever the role. A true teacher - whose quick wit and humor seemed to make every problem so much simpler. He was someone respected by all and a man who taught me more than once what really mattered. A kind, caring and genuine individual; someone who commanded respect and gave it always. May God Bless you all at this sad time. Wilf & Daphne Sutton, NL Trepassey, NL

The trip that Albert retired Gordon had a surprise for him. After the last tow and with everything cleaned up, about eleven that night he came down to the galley with a parcel for Albert. When opened it showed a lovely hunting vest and rolled up in the vest was a bottle of bacardi. When Albert showed the boys the bottle Gord said, you know Albert that you cant open this on the boat. Like, I cant Skipper, he replied and with that Gord went back to the wheelhouse with a big grin on his face and left us with Albert and his bottle. Smooth sailing my friend and maybe you will have Albert as a member of your crew again.

Ida and family, my sincerest sympathy on the passing of such a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather and Skipper. I spent eleven years fishing out of Trepassey with Gordon and he was one of the best Skippers and friend to his crew that you could find. He always had the time to chat with his men and often told me that one promise he made to himself when on deck with other Skippers in his early days on the sea was that if he ever made it to the wheelhouse he would treat his men as human beings and I can say that after spending so much time with him, he really kept his promise. I didnt get to see Gordon much in the latter years but his name always seemed to come up when a bunck of us old fishermen got together. May the happy times you shared help you through this difficult time.
