To the Dwyer Family, I was very saddened to hear of the passing of your father this morning. I remember playing over in the garden in the hay he would pile up, but he would never get mad at us when we jumped in it and knocked it all down. I will always remember him as a quiet and gentle man who always had a smile for me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Pauline

An Irish Funeral Prayer Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was. The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no sorrow in your tone. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again. Source: derived from a sermon written by Henry Scott Holland and delivered in St. Paul's (London) on 15 May 1910, at which time the body of King Edward VII was lying in state at Westminster. Although not originally derived from Irish writings, versions of this sermon have been used at many Irish and Catholic funerals over the years.

To all my family back home. My grandfather was the happiest person I've ever met. He was the only grandfather I knew in my life & to have been blessed with a man who loved me so much, who treated everyone equal, & who had no enemies in his 96 yrs,, is an HONOR!! I remember coming home from school & always stopping in to Nan & Pop's for a couple cuts of homemade toast & tea or his FAMOUS homemade chips. He always loved having company, the more the merrier. He shared so many stories & jokes with all of us & he always had a twinkle in those big BLUE eyes. Whenever I'd come home to NFLD he was the first person I would visit & I was always greeted with a BIG grin from ear to ear & a big hug & kiss... I wish I could be there to be around my family & say good-bye to my grandfather, my buddy, my friend..... The garden won't be the same without him.... To all of my family, my thoughts & prayers are with all of you at this time & when I see you all again we'll sit & smile thinking of the most loving man RON DWYER!!! I love you Poppy

It is with the most sincere regret that I offer to all of the Dwyer family my heartfelt, personal condolences on the passing of your father, an old family friend and well-respected neighbor. On my last visit to Carbonear, I sat on his doorstep with him and we had one of the best and most enjoyable conversations that I had in years. I found him to be well informed, alert to the issues of the day, never mean spirited, and always pleasant and respectful toward me. It is really the passing of an era, in the sense that I cannot imagine the back road without Ron Dwyer and the good memories that I have of him as a boy growing up in the neighborhood. On behalf of all the Moores family would you please be so kind as to accept my assurance that we will all truly and genuinely miss him.
