My first memories of Dick was his time with the Gander Flyers in the 1960's. A great defenseman and even kind enough to give me one of his sticks after a game (I was a young gaffer then) which I treasured forever. He helped many young players along his life road in hockey and I know Heaven just became a better team with Dick Power on the blueline. What a team he just joined (Harold Stanley, Jimmy Dawe, Gerry Lahey, Danky Dorrington, Jacques Allard, Mike Kelly) to name a few. Deepest condolences to the Family as you have many great memories to last forever, treasure them as they are priceless.

Mrs. Power, Libby, Danita, & Family,
My deepest condolences to you on the loss of such a wonderful man. Mr. Power was a once in a lifetime sort of person, a mentor and life coach to so many.
On a personal note:
Mr. Power was one of my biggest supporters throughout my hockey career. He was my coach on several occasions, but he was also there for advice whenever I needed it. I remember a conversation we had in his living room about some of the things that I should improve upon before heading to the Canada Games in 2003. I also dearly remember watching Team Canada's women win their first Olympic gold in 2002 with him and my dad. That is a memory that I will always treasure (especially since I was so excited to hear his enthusiastic commentary on women's hockey which was still growing at the time). He was an advocate for hockey of all kinds and people of all kinds and that is only one of the reasons that I always had so much respect and love for him. He went out of his way when I was young to call up an old buddy (Allan Andrews) to get me a free ticket to an excellent hockey school in PEI. He did it for no other reason than he wanted me to be the best that I could be and he would have done the same for any of his 'hockey kids'. He always went above and beyond the call of duty or what was expected of a coach, friend or stadium manager: from 6 am practices before school to monitoring everyone's report cards. He wanted the best for all and he could never do enough, give enough of himself, or care enough. That was just the type of person he was in all avenues of his life. Mr. Power was soft spoken, yet never afraid to tell me the truth about where I could improve. In recent years, it was always a treat to see Mr. Power out in his yard when I was visiting my parents or to bump into him anywhere. I could always count on a big hug and kiss no matter how much time had passed. There are no words that would be adequate to explain how wonderful he truly was or how dearly he will be missed. I will hold onto every great memory of him and smile every time I picture him sitting at his desk at the stadium or skating on the ice. I can only wish that my baby boy, Max, will have to privilege to meet one of these 'once in a lifetime' sort of people.

Liz and family and Power family, deepest condolences on Dick's passing. A few years ago, I was privileged and honoured to be part of the nomination process that resulted in Dick's election to the Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame. During that process, I had occasion to talk to Dick on several occasions and was struck by his immense modesty about his accomplishments. It was only when I researched his career, did I realize what an outstanding hockey player he had been during his playing days in the best hockey leagues Newfoundland had to offer. As well, his coaching career and devotion to minor hockey was second to none. The hockey community in Newfoundland has lost one the great ones with Dick's passing! RIP.

There really is no way to adequately express what a fine gentleman Dick Power was and how many lives he touched. Whenever I think of him it is with a smile, now clouded by tears. The tears are selfish, I know, as his suffering has ended and ours has just begun.
I owe him a debt of gratitude as do many people who grew up in Harbour Grace. He and his family helped shape the woman I have become through not only hockey but the love and support they provided my family.

I was very saddened to hear of the recent passing of Coach Power. As a boy growing up in the Carbonear/Harbour Grace area, Dick was my first coach in Pee Wee Hockey. We had some very successful all star teams in that era from the Conception Bay North area, participating in all-Newfoundland tournaments all over the Island and in Labrador. Dick's coaching techniques, mentoring and leadership techniques taught me many valuable lessons which I carried with me not only through my hockey playing days but life in general.
Not only has Newfoundland lost a wonderful hockey player and coach but more importantly a truly fine gentleman in all aspects of life. Rest in peace Coach Power.

Liz, Danita and Libbie. So sorry to hear do Dick's passing. He will always be remembered as a man with great dedication to the S.W. Moore's Stadium and to all the kids who played hockey. He loved his family (especially his truck buddy). No one can explane the emptiness that you feel but memories will keep him in your hearts bringing back smiles and at time sadness at times. Dick was a thoughtful man, he loved people and that is evident with a special wish for Quinn. On behalf of Andrea and our family I would like to thank your family for helping us keep Quinn's memory alive. It is said Life Goes On (this is true) but not without heartache and pain. Memories are all we have until we meet our Loved Ones again.

Dick will be remembered as an outstanding hockey player and a Hall of Famer. However his enduring memory will be in the young men and women whom he coached and mentored during his career . In his unassuming style Dick also endeared himself to his multitude of friends .
In his day and generation Dick did make a difference . In the face of his illness he was characteristically undaunted. Over the years Bell Island has produced many outstanding hockey personalities - Dick Power surely was one of them. He will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends whom he met on the road of his life . May his eternal rest be in peace. Sincere condolences to his family .

Liz, Danita, Libby, and family,
There are few words that can comfort you at this difficult time. Dick is at peace and finished with the suffering his illness forced upon him. I have known Dick since my first day on the ice in 1967 and I had the pleasure to call him my coach for all my time in minor hockey. He devoted countless volunteer hours in the early mornings and lunch time with Wayne Downing, Norm Winsor, and myself trying to make hockey players out of us and then later in the afternoon and weekends worked with hundreds of other kids. It didn't end with me as Dick was also there to coach and become a great friend and mentor to my children who developed a respect for Mr. Power that was unequaled by other coaches and adults.
Dick loved coaching and truly cared about the young players he was responsible for. He had a great rapport with those he coached and did his best to give them good advice about hockey and many other life events. For this I and I,m sure many others are truly thankful.
Dick made a difference for many people during his lifetime and will be missed by all who knew him.
Sincere condolences from myself and all my family.
