It is with great sorrow we bid farewell to a wonderful uncle and a great gentleman.
Bruce and Daphne were a very caring couple and we will always be gateful for their kindness toward my father following my mother's passing. They kept the fridge full but what my father really appreciated most was the many hours they sat and visited. Bruce had many stories to tell but they never included a bad word against anybody. He always saw the best in people.
Bruce was a very intelligent person but bragged that his baby brother was the one with all the brains and good looks. Winston, today we mourn along with you but take solace knowing that Bruce is now reunited with the love of his life.
Bruce, we will truly miss you. May you rest in peace.

Sad news for my father-in-law and all of Bruce's friends and extended family.
Although I never met my husband's uncle I had heard a lot about him and what a wonderful, smart, kind, generous person he was. I know he touched many lives in his career and many activities and I know will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To Family and Friends of Bruce,
Bruce was a man of many parts and he was rightly and highly respected and loved for the whole of them. But the fact that he was an extremely well-read and thoughtful lay theologian was the thing that kept us who were his ministers on our toes. We knew he was much more current in his reading than the books on our shelves revealed of us One could always expect from Bruce the penetrating question, the keen observation, and the quick-witted comment on our best efforts in the pulpit, or elsewhere for that matter. I'm sure it was something like that in his professional life with those who fell under his command. But I often wondered if those who served under him in the military felt the privilege that we felt in being able to serve with him in the church.
To all who mourn his passing Bonnie and I extend our condolences.
Sincerely, Russell L.and Bonnie Small

Bruce was an amazing man and an officer and a gentleman in every sense of the word. After outstanding high school scholastic achievement he declined scholarships to pursue his dream of joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. Like all things- he simply didn’t pursue- but excelled. He enlisted as a private and his talent was quickly recognized- and was he selected for the Officer Corps- something that happens about one percent of the time. Once an officer he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel – a rank that few of those “one percenters” achieve-a career progression that is incredibly rare- just like the man himself. To achieve that rank without a university degree is almost unheard of- but demonstrates that natural leadership and intellect – which shone through in Bruce-are greater measures of character and officer ship than a formal diploma-the RCAF certainly recognized this in Bruce. He could and effectively did command men but was also caring and compassionate- he led naturally and his subordinates followed naturally (well I guess having a booming radio announcer voice, rapier wit and the physique of a RCAF weight lifting champion probably encouraged subordinates to follow too). Along the way he enjoyed every aspect of military life and was a man of many talents that covered a wide spectrum of interests- he relished the manly competition of weight lifting and, as noted, was a RCAF champion (again the “excelling theme” coming through) while at the same time performed, with his “radio broadcaster voice”, as an actor in plays. Amassing a massive life long impressive stamp collection and a continual personal intellectual pursuit of educational professional development also filled the spectrum of his activities. Everything he did had a distinctive style and flair of the highest quality. Career wise he was entrusted with leading teams that were involved in projects that were cutting edge- like developing Canada’s northern defence radar system during the Cold War or being Canada’s military representative at key foreign postings in the United States and Germany. The RCAF only sent their best “ambassadors” to these billets and the dynamic duo of Bruce and Daphne- they were a true diplomatic team - were repeatedly chosen because they were entrusted to represent Canada and the RCAF to the highest standards. Back in the day spouses were vetted for these postings and it was no surprise that Daphne was a key to Bruce’s success- he would be the first to proudly admit that. His marriage was no doubt his proudest of achievements.
In terms of lives lived- his was extraordinary.

Winston and all of Bruce's extended family,
We are holding you in our hearts and prayers knowing the loss that you are feeling. Bruce touched the hearts of all whom he encountered and always had a story to tell using he quick wit to bring smiles and laughter. He was a man of deep faith, always seeking more knowledge, but recognizing that God was truly Holy Mystery. You impacted our lives profoundly and taught me much about ministry. Bruce is now reunited with the love of his life, his soul mate and he and Daphne are continuing their eternal journey together. Rest in peace our friend - until we meet again.

Please accept our condolences on Bruces passing. He was such a classy gentleman, kind and wise with a great sense of humour. He and Daphne were so kind in always inviting us to their after flower service get togethers and we never failed to have very interesting conversations with both of them. The world has lost a wonderful man.

I was so saddened to here Of Mr. Abbott's passing. He has been a Sunday customer at Hotel Hr. Grace for some time. His love for Scallop Dinner was for sure his favorite meal. We always loved to see him coming in after Church with his Buddy. There conversations would last well into the afternoon. I would always him ask how was your Scallop's today ? His response was always the same I will be back next week to try them again with a chuckle. Rest Easy Mr. Scallop man.
