Obituary of Bruce Abbott

Bruce was born in Buchans in 1934 and moved to Grand-Falls in 1944 where he attended GFA and completed grade eleven, winning the Anglo Newfoundland Development Company Scholarship but turned it down to follow his dream to be in the RCAF. Bruce served for 36 years. Bruce met the love of his life, Daphne (Butt) while stationed in CFB Gander and they were married for 62 years. Daphne passed away in August 2017. Bruce retired in 1990 and they moved to Harbour Grace where they made their home and was active in their church. Bruce passed peacefully but suddenly away at Carbonear General Hospital on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by wife: Daphne; parents: Newman and Marion. Leaving to mourn, one brother: Winston (Frances), South Farmington, NS; also a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace on Tuesday, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Wednesday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. from Coughlan United Church, Harbour Grace. Following the service, Bruce will rest with his wife Daphne in the United Church Cemetery, Freshwater, Carbonear.  In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
