Hello Sherry,
I am so saddened to hear of Clarence's passing. I have so many memories of our friendship and time both working and off duty. Your basement in New Minas was well used for recreational activities. Clarence helped me build our first house in Folaze Park in Centreville and I remember taking your family's photograph when Trente was very young.
I hope you and your family are ok. Wish I lived closer as I would come and visit. Take care and know I am thinking of you at this sad time. Dick Killam 902-698-9000

Clarence and I were cousins. I joined the RCMP a couple of years before Clarence did. Prior to him leaving for training I happened to be home on leave and Clarence and his mom came to our house in Victoria as he was looking for some insight as to what to expect at our training centre in Regina.
Two years later, while I was driving on the highway in the New Minas area in route to Yarmouth, with a little too much foot on the gas pedal, I was pulled over for speeding. I rolled down the window and Mountie Clarence stuck his head in. Looked at each other
and had a laugh and gabbed for awhile. Did Cousin Clarence give me a speeding ticket? That remains between Clarence and I.
Clarence was a humble and caring individual. His reputation as a police officer and person here in Nova Scotia was impeccable. My sincere condolences to the entire Burgess’s family. Cherish the memories!
Eric Priddle.

I knew Clarence as a troop mate from Troop 8 1973. I remember well the first day in the pool, when Clarence was the first one to jump in. He couldn't swim a stroke and was yelled at by all the instructors to either jump in or pack his bags and leave. He then jumped in the water and walked to the other side of the pool. Water was only up to his chest. Clarence was stationed in New Minas while I was stationed in Windsor. I was lucky to have him for a troop mate and also to see him later in our careers. Clarence had a keen sense of humour and a great musician and person. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. I found these pictures from training of Clarence. The first one is wash day and the second one was when we were getting ready for Parade. Sending deepest condolences to the Burgess family. Angus Emberley

I send my sincere condolences to all of Clarence's family. We were Troop mates during our recruit training June to Dec 73. Troop 8 had 8 of us from Atlantic Canada. I fondly remember how Clarence could easily boast our morale on the toughest training day. His easy going style, quick to smile and great Newfoundland humour made it happen. He topped that off with his singing and playing Newfoundland songs. I do believe he missed his true calling. When we got our first postings and it was known I was off to Wabush Clarence was quick to let me know how great his home province truly is and how he would eventually return home. Our paths did cross to few times over the years unfortunately not enough times.
I can only hope your most cherished memories help you all through this very difficult time. God obviously needed a little more humour in heaven. May he rest in peace!

There are no words, are there? From the day I met Clarence, through all the ups and downs, frustrations, trying times, and the many laughs of Detachment work, he was a dependable co-worker, honest with his opinion, but more than that, a great friend and confidant. I look back fondly at the good times, of rooming together on conferences and hockey tournaments, of spending a Saturday afternoon in his "store" in Crocker's Cove cooking up a feed of fish and brewis (I think), for the annual hockey team "luncheon", of our time practicing music and watching Clarence perform his magic on the banjo.
Quiet but effective, I don't recall Clarence ever raising his voice; his calm demeanor an asset in any sort of potentially volatile situation, and when things got a little mundane, you could always count on the twinkle in the eye, along with the grin, and some words of wisdom to liven up the place.
Sherry, Michael and Trent, pleas accept our sincere condolences.

Dear Sherry and family,
I am so very sad to hear of the passing of the larger than life, Clarence. An Irish saying: "May your home always be too small to hold all your friends". Walls could never hold all the people Clarence touched, made laugh, helped and cared for in his life.
He was my trainer in New Minas, my first posting, fresh from Depot. My life was never the same. Our adventures are my best life stories. Both Sherry and Clarence made this shy, naive, french guy feel right at home.
Clarence...Open a bottle of "Captain", play some tunes with the angels and share good laughs with Jack and Rooster.
RIP my friend.

Dear Sherry and Family, I was so sad in hearing and reading of Clarence's passing. I knew that he wasn't well but did not expect this news today. He was a great guy and so very funny. We had many great times in New Minas with his card games, tongues and cheeks and the Newfie music. A number of years back I was working on a case in Twillingate and out of no where, at the Detachment, a door opens and whose there but Burgess. He was so surprised to see me that his face lit up like a Xmas tree. We had a great laugh and a good chat. That was the last time i saw him but i did speak with him in more recent years. Those of us left in the valley speak of Clarence often and have many good memories. Sherry, take care, you and your family are in my thoughts at this difficult time. RIP Clarence old Buddy! Sorry to see that Clarence has made his exit from the stage of life
In his mounted Police career- he and I were on the opposite sides in our cases
Clarence was an excellent Police Officer - he was cooperative - well prepared and reasonable.
He was extremely outgoing and had a gd sense of humour.
He realized that compromise was often necessary to deal with issues and he was diligent in dealing with his files .
Over a multi decade career- I have dealt with many people in Police uniforms - none was better than Clarence Burgess
May his eternal rest be in peace
